We have wheelguns in .22 LR and .22 WMR. They'll leave a mark at close range. We also keep a .380 ACP in the top drawer of my nightstand, in case it's an after-hours disturbance, so I can get down the hall to my AR and riot gun. (I'd really like to own an old trench gun to keep in the bedroom closet, too.)

also not a bad idea to get a good recoil system in place on it so you’re not sore after using it awhile.

One way or the other, they are probably not going to have the opportunity to use it that many times. If it is an unfavorable result, a sore shoulder is the least of the problems. Likely to be taken out, overrun, or run off the survivors before you get off more than a handful of shots.

Slugs seem like a poor choice for indoor use, and a good way to upset your neighbors.

I got a Mossy 500 20 ga. too, but it’s a pump and it’s got a 26” ribbed barrel. Make for a good duck gun. Pretty thing. It was a mystery gun I inherited. For home defense purposes, I went with an H&R 5+1 12 ga. tactical with an 18” barrel. I swapped out the synthetic rear stock with an adjustable stock/pistol grip and five-shell carrier, added a Picatinny rail and a holo reflex scope/laser, and wrapped the barrel with a vented heatshield and a low-light optic forward sight just behind the front bead. Do I need all of that? No. Did I want all of that? You betchum, Kimosabe.

I’ve taken all the slings off the rifles and shotguns that are for ‘home defense’. They just get in the way, and catch on doorhandles etc.

The only things that have slings on them anymore are things I am likely to carry for a long way, and on my long range rifles for stability.

my friend has a one story home. the master bedroom has a walk in closet which doubles as a safe room. smaller hardware is distributed somewhat evenly, while long hardware is kept in the garage with the exception of the semi auto SG with extension which is in the safe room. he has also sprinkled a few mag lights around, including some 3 C cell LED maglites, which seem very handy (for example, one is close by the front door).

'Slugs seem like a poor choice for indoor use, and a good way to upset your neighbors.'

I guess that eliminates the use of bolo shells, as well.

From an individual LEATHERSMITH is my opinion. - TRY local flea markets & gun shows for such a local person.
IF that fails, message me & I’ll ask my holster-maker in PIPE CREEK, TX to make him/her a NICE sling.

Should I need to go to Mr. Hernandez, BE SURE to send me required dimensions, color(s) desired, “Special features” (Like the name, if any) wanted, etc. & I’ll ask him to do the custom job for your friend.

Ernesto does GREAT WORK at a REASONABLE price. = Every “wrong-handed guy”, who has seen the OWB holster, that he made for me for my ZIGANA K wants one, too.

Yours, TMN78247

You are welcome.

I find in my old age, that I am happier with less ‘stuff’ on all my weapons. Had a a couple of “Full Mall Ninja” setups, to cover every situation I might encounter. Found it all slowed me down, tired me out due to weight, got in the way in actual use, and required much more maintenance. So instead, I have set up most of them each for specific purposes, and as light as possible. Lots happier now...

Although I have to admit, now I occasionally find myself dithering over which ones to grab ‘when things go bump in the night’ (or day).

Well, for me, my AR has a single-point bungee sling, and I like it. It suits me, and that, to me, is Issue #1 when looking for what your friend wants. My '31 Tula Mosin Nagant has the full set of military issue canvas Russkie goodies, which I don't want to fiddle with because I went to extra pains to make sure I got a hex barrel flamethrower with all matching serials. We also have more flashlights than most people have teeth. (And several oil hurricane lamps for power outages. Note to self: I gotta break down and buy a backup generator this year. We live in Hurricane Central.) The closet in our master BR has a set of louvered French doors, which are only three feet from my side of the bed. (It sounds like a small room, but we have a King sleigh bed. It has a monster footprint.) Neither of my shotguns have slings, although it seems like a good idea in an odd way. OTOH, I don't hunt with the Mossberg; it just 'appeared' in my rifle rack one evening. And my H&R Tactical wasn't modded out for any sort of overland travel; it's strictly for close quarters home/property defense, and the idea of a sling seems like more of a hindrance than a help to me.
