Sine 2020 looks like a big income loss for Cruise Lines, you know some form of bankruptcy will have to be taken within the next few months.
I hope you can get an enjoyable 2020 cruise in.
In Australia the unions are looking to have the cruise ships carry an Australian crew and be flagged in Australia.
If that idea catches on , the repercussions will result in many cruise ships going to the breakers for scrap value.
I don't believe the Cruise Lines will be able to fill all the cruise ships in 2021,even if the flagging and crews stay the same. -Tom
From the article:
“an industry already on the nose for its social, health and environmental problems.”
It looks like the viruse is not the only problem for the Cruise lines. They are in the crosshairs of the leftists who no doubt see them as floating playgrounds for rich white people. Ridiculous sure but what isn’t at the moment. I am less optimistic about the fate of the cruise lines then even a month ago.
The continued State and country lockdowns, and our incompetent CDC has encouraged the cruise Lines to cancel cruises into late 2020. Cutting of revenue in 2020 , by cancelling cruises and having to pay for new ships on order and being delivered, should force some lines into chapter 11 for reorganization , and a diminished fleet.
A problem in using cruise ships for collateral to get money to tide you over the rough spots , is all the other cruise lines are in economic difficulty at the same time, and can't readily use or buy the collateral.
From what I read Australia has Carnival Corp.as a target and will work an economic hardship on them, using Australian unions and health officials and the police investigation units.
Australia is a big cruise country. -Tom
Hope you are wrong.....we have booked 2 cruises on Celebrity and one on Crystal! Crystal all paid for!
If the cruise lines go CH 11 they will still be in business, they will reorganize and pay back their debts over a longer period of time.
Cruising will continue. It has too, so the creditors can get back the money they loaned the Cruise Lines.
If they fold completely, that is a different story.-Tom
Especially when Carnival takes that lovely money away to NZ and the Pacific islands...and on to Hawaii..and Alaska...
and lots of other Aussies are inspired to fly over to Florida to cruise in the Caribbean...
Hey Mate that aint cricket....
Australia could end up in a tug of war between the interests of the Australian tourism Cruise industry, and the Australian Govt.- Tom
2020 season is mostly lost for cruise companies.
I am betting 2021 will be a big come back year for cruise companies, for those who survive 2020 virus from China.
People addicted to cruises like myself, are eager and waiting! This staying at home routine has caused my bank balance to get fatter.
DO you think Crystal is worth the mucho extra bux?
I agree, but others will delay cruises, and put an economic burden on Cruise Lines because of the Cruise Lines obsession with coronavirus prevention, and placating health organizations, like our corrupt and incompetent CDC and the worldwide UNWHO .
People want to go on an enjoyable cruise and not feel like they are paying to be on a hospital ship.
Two things to remember here: "The events are in charge" and "The bigger the bundle, the bigger the bungle. -Tom

A usually reliable source on Cruise Critic says Holland will cancel all cruises through the end of November. We’re almost certain we will cancel our December cruise. We have no desire to play social distancing, wear masks, etc., while on a cruise.
I have come to the same conclusion on my October 2020 trip Boston to Bermuda since NORWEGIAN is coming up with social distancing and other so called covid solutions while on the cruise. That trip would have been my 6th yearly October trip to Bermuda.
Also I wouldn't be surprised if that trip gets cancelled by NORWEGIAN. -Tom

Not that the cruise lines have a real choice. If they don’t impose those protocols, then many will stay away. If they don’t imposte those protocols and a single passenger becomes ill there will be hell to pay even if the illness has nothing to do with the cruise.
What amazes me is how many have embraced these protocols on Cruise Critic. I suspect they are following these protocols at home so they don’t see the imposition.
My theory is that if the cruise line thinks the cruise is so dangerous that it requires the protocols, then the cruise is too dangerous period.
Sorry about your cruise.
Our December cruise was to be a milestone. Our first without a dog so we could go for longer than a week. This was an eleven day partial Panama. Oh well, we’ll save a bunch by staying home.
I know what you mean.
When we would go on a Cruise our Siamese cat would refuse to eat.
Our daughter would try everything like cat reward foods, and fish from the supermarket, in addition to the regular cat food. Nothing worked.
When we would get home I would make up his regular meal which he would just look at, and then ignore it.
That night in the wee hours he would go to the bowl when we were asleep, and eat every bit of it, and things would return to normal. -Tom
one of my cruises would have sailed today...
After my big ones in Europe and TA in Oct were cancelled I booked a 5 day from Charleston and got upgraded to a spa cabin... I was so miserable I planned to just stay in the spa for the whole 5 days “licking my wounds” and not bother going ashore as I have seen the ports several times...
But this one was cancelled also...
Now my next is Oct 18...
Poseidon and his brother King Neptune hate me ...
It’s Crystal River Cruises....and they are having a great sale right now....cheaper than Viking, and ALL INCLUSIVE!

When we left the boat, my wife would drive non-stop (14 hours) to get us home so we could get the dogs out of the kennel early the next day. Last year we had to put both dogs down.
Now, I think we’ve pretty much decided to forgo cruising and get another dog. We really enjoyed dinner on the balcony of the ship. We can basically recreate the effect at home. We have a covered balcony four times the size of the one on a ship. We can get delivery or we only live about five hundred yards from the club house for our Country Club. That will save thousands and our new dog won’t complain about our not wearing a mask.
I hope you get to Bermuda.
You will be welcome there.-Tom
Excerpt From the Bermudian ROYAL GAZETTE June19, 2020
The total number of cancelled trips by all operators is at least 132, out of 192 cruises scheduled before the coronavirus crisis.
Bermuda will miss out on about $120 million that would have been injected into the economy, including $31 million in government revenue from cruise ship passenger tax and transport infrastructure tax, and an estimated $89 million that visitors would have spent on the island.
Ive been there before back in 2016...
Actually I should have been in Venice, Italy on Oct 18 but that was before those cruises were canceled...
