A flurry of gunshots wounded at least nine people at an outdoor party with hundreds on Syracuses Near West Side Saturday night, including a 17-year-old boy who is in critical condition.
Police Chief Kenton Buckner said at least nine were wounded and taken to Upstate Medical University after the shootings near Fayette and Wyoming streets. The boy was shot in the head, police said.
A video posted to Facebook appears to capture more than 25 shots that scattered the crowd.
A witness said the shooting occurred at an annual outdoor gathering called Rye Day, which features a DJ. Several hundred people crowded into a square near the WCNY building to enjoy the music, cookout and festivities. The event was scheduled to end at 9 p.m.
About 15 minutes before the event was to end, the music abruptly stopped, the witness said. Then he heard at least 12 shots and people scattered.
A crowd of people ran northeast from the square. The witness saw a man sitting on his knees holding his chest with two hands. He wore a blue-striped shirt and jeans. He encouraged the man to get up and keep running.
I said, Come on, man, we gotta go. Theyre shooting, the witness said. He said, I cant, man, I got shot. So he just sat there waiting for help.
Suddenly at least 10 police cars were racing to the scene, the witness said.

Theres an old bumper sticker - Ithaca is the city of evil
Syracuse and leftist hell hole college town in New York aint far behind
I am for one super happy that New York City is going to be back in the dumper just like it was in the 1970s , run by idiot communists who cant even find tgeir butt with both hands
and people are going to be flying out of there with both feet and all their money
Rush left 25 years ago for Florida.
Why is this story a big deal? I’ve done 9 shots at a party lots of times.

Wait....thought we had to defund those racist police departments.
Syracuse police have many video cameras on lamp posts in that area.
The WCNY studios are right next to a low-income housing community that covers six or seven square blocks.
I assume there are other video cameras in the area. The “square” they are referring to is (I’m making an educated guess here) a grassy strip immediately North of the WCNY studios, on the other side of W. Fayette Street from the studio parking lot. It is bounded on the north by some train tracks, and on the West by a parking lot that is fenced in and access controlled.
I often drive through that area, but have been avoiding it since the riots.
A year from now, Rye Day will be a federal holiday.

The mayor of Syracuse is a political independent and a Christian.
When they tried to turn a Floyd protest violent, he clamped down on it within hours.
Apparently, hes not taking any nonsense from the ferals.
I thought Rye was a pretty nice place, but immediately North of NYC?
Fortunately, Syracuses downtown area is not all that big.
That’s near where I work. The neighborhood is low income, housing projects.
Is this considered a mass shooting ? Probably wont see it reported as such. When Whitey is the shooter, then its a mass shooting.
Fortunately, Syracuses downtown area is not all that big.
The police dept headquarters is right on State St, just about smack in the middle of any area I would prefer to avoid. Its very strategically located.
Used to go on business trips a lot to Syracuse. One of my favorite places was The Dinosaur Bar-B-Que for lunch. The big Carrier Plant there was still producing Air Conditioners, but that since shut down.
Drove through it a few years ago on the way to Canada, actually did have lunch at The Dinosaur, for old times sake, but it looked really depressed from when I used to go there.
It was considerate of the shooters to wait until the music finished before unloading their fusillade of bullets. Class always tells.
This location is about half a mile SSW of the Dinosaur, at the corner of W. Fayette Street and Wyoming Ave., if I am guessing correctly.
Snowflakes come in fluries.
Gunfire comes in fusillades.
That's great to hear.
