Horse racing fans experienced a full day of action on Saturday with several events leading up to the 2020 Belmont Stakes. Tiz the Law secured the win during the opening Triple Crown event, but a different horse created conversations on social media. American Pharoah's daughter Sweet Melania won the Wonder Again race, creating conversations about the first lady.

Several Twitter users made proclamations about Melania Trump and Sweet Melania alike on Saturday afternoon following the victory. Some thought it was the perfect name for the horse while others wanted to discuss political opinions. Others expressed that they loved the horse, but they didn't like the name that was sitting atop the leaderboard. Although some people joined in the conversation in order to simply ask why "Melania" was trending on Saturday afternoon.

Bonnie Chambers @BonnieC919 Sweet Melania (American Pharoah-Sweet N Discreet) returns a winner today in the Wonder Again to begin her 3 year old campaign. And yes, her owner named her after our lovely First Lady!

I almost forgot the Belmont was yesterday. Luckily someone mentioned it.

I was upset, though, to see Marxist placators had influenced it, though. Not only are the jockeys made to wear masks, they took a knee.

Someone thought it was a race a few weeks ago, but either way, it was at Belmont.

My beloved racing, caving to the race.

The kneeling took place on opening day June 3 which also included recognizing victims of the virus.

However, this is what has gotten some people in trouble. Mentioning “all” and not limiting the kneeling for blacks.

This jock was born in New York state. I would imagine many BLM participants will be upset with him.

The quote(s):

“There’s a lot going on in the world right now and we wanted to show respect to all causes, and to all people, and to show that we here at NYRA [New York Racing Association] support everybody,” explained jockey Reylu Gutierrez, who won the first race on the behind-closed-doors card on Star Of The West for trainer Rudy Rodriguez.

“Horse racing, in general, supports all ethnicities,” added the rider, speaking to NYRA reporters.

“Horse racing is a worldwide sport and it doesn’t matter what colour you are, what religion you are, or what ethnicity you are. What matters in horse racing is that we are one. Here at NYRA, we have people from everywhere and fans from everywhere. We will continue to be united here and support everybody.”

I heard this morning that every horse in the race yesterday was a descendant of Secretariat. WOW. And to think, I met Secretariat at the Kentucky Derby. :)

Not Fore Left. Not a drop.

Those that are, is mostly due to his great racer/stallion grandson AP Indy. Sec did pretty well as broodmare sire, not as straight-up sire.

But many of them are descendents of Man O’War, the greatest, a century after his incredible 3yo season. (AP Indy also MOW descendent, at least via his daddy the great sire Seattle Slew.)

Don’t start another war!

Thanks for the ping! Read it this morning - what a great bloodline that horse has, and how sweet of them to name her after our Melania. :)

After she wins the Triple Crown, maybe President Trump will buy her for the family pet? LOL! They don’t have a pet at the White House these days! ;)

The footage shown of taking a knee was from a few weeks back.

As good as Sweet Melania is-—

The mare named Gamine was spectacular.

She had post P#1, IIRC, and she went wire to wire -—won by 15 ++ lengths-—and set a new record.

She FLYING down the stretch and looking like she was having the time of her life. Some horses just LOVE to run-—and she showed that yesterday.

She wasn’t even in the Belmont, so will definitely not be a TC winner. ;-)

Gamine is a filly not a mare. That was one of the most impressive performance in quite some time. She may run in the Preakness.

There is a horse named SOROS running in the Ohio Derby on Saturday. The winner gets 20 points towards entry into the Kentucky Derby.
