Cruise industry suspends sailings until September

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) on Friday announced that all U.S. cruise lines it represents have agreed to voluntarily suspend voyages until Sept. 16 or later. CLIA represents dozens of cruise lines, including brands owned by South Florida's publicly traded cruise companies.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) no-sail order for cruising is set to expire July 24. However, out of an abundance of caution, the association decided to push back the relaunch date of more than 25 cruise lines in the U.S.

"Although we had hoped that cruise activity could resume as soon as possible after [July 24], it is increasingly clear that more time will be needed to resolve barriers to resumption in the United States," CLIA's statement read.

From the Cruise Hive--As a result of the CLIA announcement, Carnival Cruise Line Ambassador John Heald posted on social media stating that the cruise line was aware of the announcement just made by the CLIA and would be providing an update on Monday, June 22.

Today Monday June 22, Carnival has weighed in.

Carnival Cruise Line has extended its operational pause in North America through Sept. 30, 2020.
