Gallows humor is what I was seeing, most civilians don’t understand why police, fire and military talk and joke the way they do.
When exposed to it in singular situations like this they are outraged, but it’s how THEY deal with this stuff year after year after year.
Understandable. They didn’t joke him to death, though.
I get gallows humor. But when the guys is not only not dead, but begging to not be dead is the wrong time for it. This is the generally callous don’t give a crap attitude that’s put us in this mess.
I understand black humor perfectly well, and a decent person never does it the presence of a patient, arrestee, prisoner or family member of the above. Not even when someone is unconscious.
