Max 2% error rate in fatality rate count (various count totals out there)....pretty easy for coroners/docs signing death certs. to determine COD...lung damage, low O2 levels leading to organ failure, viral pneumonia, etc. (in addition to a positive SARS-CoV-2 test of course).

Not intentionally....7 more months makes one “flu season” (for stats purposes).

In many places, they test twice, because the test had a high rate of false positives. Thus a second test was necessary to confirm it. If that one was positive, it was added as another positive, counting those two treats of one person as separate positives.

They also, in the case of Florida (which the press is trying to make look bad), announced that hospitalizations were up. Well, they are, because people who had elective surgeries or treatments but couldn’t get them before are now going back to the hospitals, and people who avoided the emergency rooms for critical care are now going back and being hospitalized. But not for the virus.

It is possible that some of them, if they are tested, will be found to have had it, but even so, COVID is not the cause of their hospitalization or anything they’re being treated for.

The press is panting to have another lockdown, Fauci is doing his best to encourage it, and articles are already appearing about what the “second lockdown” will look like.

Looks like COVID will end up being stuck in the “#2” slot for all-time flu pandemics in the US..

Might even drop back to #3 or 4 if one factors in world populations totals at the time, such as the Hong Kong Flu of 1968 or Asian Flu of 1957.

Here is the detail that the headline belies.

Abbott is a sane guy and a solid governor. Why on earth do some folks cringe when he suggests safety precautions?

To your point there are a lot of ARDS deaths that have been listed as presumptive deaths based on autopsy findings. However, ARDS is NOT unique to CoVID. There is approximately 20,000 - 25,000 presumptive deaths that are not laboratory confirmed. So the 2% number is not accurate.

I really don’t have a problem with governors acting like politicians, the same way I don’t have a problem with a dog taking a whiz on a fire hydrant — it is what they do. I listened to Abbott and I listened to DeSantis yesterday. Both are getting ahead of the numbers and providing the facts behind the numbers, but the media with its biased ADHD will continue to scary headlines.

In One region of Florida that I have studies fully 35% of the deaths of that region of approximately 4 M people (58 total deaths) came from ONE NURSING HOME that failed to do the right thing.

While the population of patients in SNF is <1% of the American population, over 40% of all CoVID deaths are related to SNF. There is the important demographic. The ongoing drum beat of are we going to relock the country if ridiculous as in my career I have seen influenza act the exact same way.

As I said yesterday the reason this is so scary is because it is being broadcast. We are being treated like sheeple. Reasonable people take reasonable precautions and move on. Wash, don’t pick your nose, don’t visit Grandma in the NH if you are sick. But shutting the economy? Banning sports? We always have dangerous viruses circulating — why this reaction to this virus at this time? That is the question that needs answering.

Ouch!

Now easy does it tiny pagoda, and remember you are useless going forward. We need men, not effeminate males posing for selfies in Beatle t-shirts. Your only value is as a contributor to the Littles and their ongoing game of Dungeon and Dragons.

and is only #2 by inflating the numbers by 30-50%. Also when you look at raw numbers our population is much higher than in previous pandemics so you would expect the raw numbers to be higher

also from your article - the number of hospitalizations is manageable and they are at the lowest threat level. But that doesn’t incite the fear and panic if the headline does it? Go party with Kozak and hockey stick Mcgee. They are over hyperventilating in the corner
