During the 1990s, I was acquainted with a woman who helped with blood donation drives. She said that there was sometimes a little difficulty in that area with getting enough donors. She said that blood was not allowed from anyone who had ever had sex with anyone else who had ever abused drugs intravenously. It’s likely that the same problem from drug abuse is far more widespread now.

Our local Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post cosponsor community blood drives every two months. Three such drives have been scheduled since the Wuhan Flu pandemic struck. All drives were conducted as scheduled. All drives complied with all pandemic ordinances, regulations, and health guidance. And despite adverse weather, all drives exceeded their collection goals.

That is what dedicated donors can accomplish when properly supported by blood drive organizers. They freely give their blood so others may live.
