Gina, It’s a 16’ x 32’ in-ground pool with a vinyl liner, a 1 1/2 HP Hayward pump, and a Hayward Pro Series sand filter with a six-way valve (not sure of the model, but it’s about 32 inches tall) that holds about 50 pounds of filter sand, give or take. The water is green, as in green algae. She’s hit it with one bottle of flocculent, new 3” chlorine tabs in the dual floater and the skimmer basket, and a boatload of Shock Xtra Blue and some pool salt, and it put a dent in it, but it’s clumping and floating, not sinking. We sprung almost $400 for a new, AC powered, heavy duty pool robot with twin collection bags inside, but the algae is overhead. I never anticipated throwing $1500 into this bathtub this year. I got better places to put my money, so if Keith can offer advice, I’m all ears. I do admit the sand in the filter probably needs replaced, and the pressure valve on the filter needs replaced, too.
Hey, Viking. I’ve been analyzing pool water samples for the last 3 years. I think your pool is about 20k. Salt pool. Is that correct? Knowing the salt level, pH and chlorine level is needed. Also the CYA or cyanuric acid, aka, stabilizer level. I’m pretty sure that I can help fix your problem. Are you on well water or city? Need to know the pH, calcium and alkalinity level coming of the feed water. I know Hayward systems. They are very good.
