Sweet! 30hp for free.

While I don’t work on engine ECU’s directly, it’s my understanding that the fuel/throttle/air mapping is somewhat ‘general purpose’ out of the factory. In other words, it’ll work well at higher altitudes but may not be highly tuned when at sea level. They compromise. It seems odd to get free HP but I believe this is generally the case for most mass production vehicles.

What do you have that has 750hp?

Yes. Mileage and warranty concerns.

My computer also contains ignition and cam curves.

They also have to tune for fleet economy and emissions.

Once off the showroom you can retune. Easy to still meet 50 state certs.

The standard Mustang comes with four performance modes.

The normal mode doesn’t give you the full rated performance but fleet certs use this mode since it is the default mode.

Sort of related.

Your TV comes with a default viewing mode. You can adjust to a better, brighter picture but you won’t be getting the same energy use proudly advertised on that EPA sticker.
