Nikelodeon appears to have hinted that SpongeBob SquarePants is gay after showing Bikini Bottom's most famous resident celebrating Pride Month. The network made the revelation on Saturday in a tweet to celebrate Pride Month, although it did not specifically state SpongeBob's sexual orientation. In a Twitter posting, Nikelodeon tweeted: 'Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.'

I don’t think I’ve watched more than 60 seconds of the show, but I do remember the gay community adopting the Sponge early on. I never knew if that was the original intent of the show’s writers, though.

The creator said the character is asexual way back in 2005. Of course, he died two years ago, so they must feel free to change things against the guy’s wishes. Gotta pander.
