POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. One of the highly popular festivals in the state, the Mothman Festival in Mason County, has been canceled due to COVID-19.
Organizers said in a Facebook post on Thursday, Due to many unknown factors and the guidelines for fairs and festivals now set forth by the state of West Virginia because of COVID 19, we are postponing Mothman Festival 2020.
The event, that commemorates the 1966 Point Pleasant Mothman sighting that gave birth to the infamous red-eyed winged legend, had been scheduled for Sept. 19 and 20.
The restrictions in place would affect the guest speakers, bus tours, hayride, vendor space, and traffic and pedestrian flow in a negative way, organizers said.
This is the last thing we wanted to do, the Facebook post said. The state guidelines would be tough for the crowds of our size. Instead of the Mothman festival being what it is and what we love, we feel the event would be subpar and lackluster to what has been built over the last 18 years.
Plans have started for the Mothman Festival in 2021 on Sept 18th and 19th and organizers promise a large 20th-anniversary celebration.
People could always watch Godzilla vs. Mothra movies.
So LSD and they're having an annual festival to celebrate?
A lot of young people who live outside of the area, only know about the Silver Bridge collapse because of ‘Mothman’ and John Keel:

Covid - scam of the century.
I’m sure the Mothman is exceedingly grateful.
Damn
Mothman died of COVID.
It’s a very sad thing.
But because of the (invented) restrictions.
NOW do you get it ?
Bummer!!
There was a great tv show on a few years back called mountain monsters that had one episode dedicated to recent mothman sightings.
They chase a lot of critters in that Appalachian area including big foots, wolfman, wampus cats, fire lizards.
Dangerous at night in that country
"Mothra will be here! Mothra will be here!"
Oh wait. Wrong twins.
I’ve been thinking of retiring there.
Sounds like my kind of country - especially as I’ve been learning to play the Appalachian (Mountain) dulcimer. It was invented in Appalachia, and they say it’s the ‘easiest instrument’ to learn to play.
But - when you see truly accomplished people playing - you sort of doubt that:

Or is that just what ‘the voice’ on the phone says...
Peter Ustinov was never a moth man.
So the Mothman won’t see his shadow and six more weeks of spring/summer/fall/winter?
