Cops has been taken off the force: The long-running reality TV pioneer has been cancelled at Paramount Network following a nearly seven-year run there, our sister site Deadline is reporting.
Cops is not on the Paramount Network, and we dont have any current or future plans for it to return, a network spokesperson said in a statement.
The groundbreaking docuseries, which followed real law enforcement professionals from around the country as they patrolled the local streets and arrested criminals, debuted back in 1989 on Fox, airing there on Saturday nights for more than two decades until it was cancelled in 2013. It was soon picked up by Spike TV, though, which began airing new episodes later that year. It remained on the schedule when Spike TV changed its name to Paramount Network in 2018. Altogether, 32 seasons and more than 1,100 episodes of Cops have aired.
With the current worldwide protests against systemic racism and police violence, though, Paramount Network decided to shelve the upcoming Cops season premiere last week, which had been slated to air June 8. Meanwhile, A&E Network opted not to air new episodes of Live PD, another police docuseries, on June 5 and 6 in light of recent events. The network is still evaluating the right time to bring it back, Deadline reports.
Give me Burke’s Law.
Or Ironside, Adam 12, Dragnet, Police Story, Kojak, McCloud, McMillan & Wife, Madigan, and the rest.
The few episodes I’ve seen of Law and Order remind me of a long dull, morbid afternoon touring the City Morgues.
Not a show I would select.
Live PD wasn’t on last weekend and we’ll probably lose First 48, also.
Actually I was reacting to EdnaMode’s question about whether Hollywood will still produce Police dramas. A&E has suspended the extremely popular Live PD which showed what cops have to go through. They have to put with an inexhaustible supply of a-holes and lowlifes. We cannot have cops seen in a favorable light in this atmosphere.
The original SWAT is still better.
Hondo, Deke, TJ, Luca, and Street dispensing justice from the blue van.
Every bad guy on those Dick Wolfe Produced SVU Shows are White Nationalists, White Klan Members, White Child Molesters, White Domestic Terrorists or evil White Corporate CEO’s out to screw over the hard working Minorities.
Did I mention they are usually White Men?
Cops is counter-revolutionary.
Dont forget The Rookies with a young Kate Jackson.
It won’t come to war, we can’t fight fellow Americans, meek Republicans will just put their heads in the sand and go quietly into that goodnight in shame.
Now THAT was some real drama! LOL!
actually I don't have a tv but watch it at mom's some times.
The first several years of COPS were great. Then, a certain community (Can’t remember which one /s) demanded that they show fewer blacks as suspects. So then instead of exciting chases, there were more domestic violence episodes, where people over 50 would complain, “He called me a bitch,” and the other spouse would say, “She threw a beer at me.” Real exciting.
What the producers SHOULD have said was, “For every black suspect dealer there are a minimum of 4 black Under-Covers shown working the bust and 3 black uniforms shown protecting the community. But instead they buckled.
It is almost as if protesting and rioting works.
Does this mean that the Investigation Discovery Channel will be removed from the Lineup?
Tonight and tomorrow night all the Discovery Channels are being preempted by the Hate Whitey Oprah Special.
I’m sure it will be a fair discussion, especially with that pillar of humanity Charles Blow on the panel, joining the other sensible Black Folks Oprah invited.
A nation of wimps, weve become.
Made me laugh. Are you an attorney? Or LEO?
Not that I disagree with you, just wondering about the ire.
NCIS and Blue Bloods next...
You know the first group/person that stands up to these a holes and pushes back are going to become cultural icons.
I just dont see anyone out there that has the guts.
Maybe Musk?
How about the scene in the Naked Gun satire movies when O.J. Simpson was dragged by a car? That was pure comedy.
