Iowa Rep. Steve King defeated in GOP primary

State Sen. Randy Feenstra defeated incumbent Rep. Steve King in Tuesday's Republican primary for Iowa's 4th congressional district, according to the Cook Political Report.

Why it matters: King's history of racist remarks has made him one of the most controversial politicians in the country and a pariah within the Republican Party.

House Republican leadership stripped the nine-term congressman of his committee assignments in 2019 after he questioned in an interview with the New York Times how the terms "white nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization" became offensive. The big picture: The Republican establishment coalesced around Feenstra beginning in January, when the Republican Main Street Partnership PAC became the first national GOP organization to publicly endorse and financially support him.

Feenstra, who has consistently dominated King in fundraising, had sought to paint King as an ineffective ally to President Trump, rather than campaign on his history of white nationalist rhetoric. Feenstra's victory will likely move the seat into safe Republican territory for the general election in November.

Steve King lost because he made a few inexcusably stupid statements.

It took Steve King a little too long to finally start supporting Trump a couple years ago.

I never felt too comfortable about that.

Oh I stand corrected I thought he was a supporter of POTUS once he was elected.

Good for Iowa.

Steve King was an idiot show-pony feeding on the public trough.

Get a real job, loser.

I don’t know when exactly but some of his comments back then just didn’t seem right to me.

“This absolutely guarantees Republicans will hold the seat”

BS. It means that huckster Feenstra will last maybe one or two cycles and then be beaten by a “moderate” Rat.

Who needs a fake Rat when you can hire a real one?

One of the best men on immigration and trade went down because of the cowering phonies in DC who are timidly standing quiet while thugs waving Mexican flags participate in the sacking of America.

I know Steve King. I guaranty you are a bigger RINO than Steve King. Maybe you’re thinking of Peter King?

Like a lot of people past age 70, King has lost his verbal filter.

He deserved to lose for talking to the New York Times.

Feenstra will vote conservative, except he’s a cheap labor open borders stooge.

That used to be "my" district years ago (back to the Berkly Bedell days), and I try to keep up to speed on it. Your take on it is pretty accurate.

Steve has been a favorite of my mom and this disappoints her, but doesn't surprise her. She knows that a real conservative doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on any given gaffe or off the cuff remark that finds its way to the ministry of propaganda; the famously courage-deficient Iowa GOP might have endured Steve King on the issues, but RINOs anywhere are real bad about caving in to "macaca," "putz" or "incest" moments.
