The Guard is from the Royal Air Force Regiment. Which has mounted the guard before.

The Queen didn’t wear the crown because the December State opening was the second of 2019 due to the December General Election and the Queen delayed her annual Christmas trip to Sandringham, so they did a stripped down opening.
