In this case, it makes sense. it shows to the masses, that she is leaving him, which moves her and her kids out of harms way.

I'm pretty sure Kellie saw this coming and was just, plain scared to react because her brother AND her husband were both part of a band of brothers.
At least ONE life is saved because of this tragedy.
