He was a really talented song writer.

He was great, but he also busted his butt writing them. He said every song he ever wrote came from “blood that turned into notes on the page” meaning he went through hell writing them.

There’s one documentary on Youtube that is really good, this one below, where he says he “wore out the rug” working on songs without sleep for days. To me that’s what “genius” really is, it’s people who can keep going like that and just by sheer force of will come up with tremendous things. They don’t stand for failure even to the point of harming themselves

I recall my high school English teacher telling us, I think it was about Alfred Lord Tennyson and "Crossing the Bar," that he said he consumed a box of cigars while working on the poem--which seems like it could be whipped off quickly, now that it is finished.

1968 is 52 years ago. Those Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies in that clip must be nearly all in their 60s now (or deceased).

Seeing all those Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies singing “God Bless America” made me teary eyed. Do kids today even know the words?

I never see Boy scouts or Cub scouts today, it’s sad. I’m assuming the left succeeded in destroying it. First they sued to allow pedophiles in, now lawyers are suing the Boy scouts for kids who were molested while the leftists who demanded pedophiles be let in are ignored and now the Boy scouts are bankrupt.
