When They Want a New Normal, and You Want to Scream
FreedomFest Forum ^ | May 2020 | Katie Phipps Hague

I’ve noticed something interesting as I’ve scrolled through social media or chatted with friends about the current state of the world...I’ve been surprised to discover that a lot of the folks who have willingly adopted the vision of a “new normal” don’t really have strong opinions on the more politically charged reasons that people either support or abhor these lockdowns and all that come with them.

What I’ve observed in my wholly unscientific study, which consisted entirely of perusing social media threads...is that a lot of people who want life to be divided into a pre- and post- COVID-19 way of doing things actually just really like working from home, having an excuse to commit to fewer engagements, having dinners every night as a family, and having their spouse and kids around more.

They’re not fired up about being able to get back to work—they’ve used the lockdown for home improvement projects, and their financial future feels relatively secure. They don’t really care too much that rentals are opening up along the coast and they’ll be “allowed” to travel soon, or that the fallout from the shutdown in the form of everything from skyrocketing food prices and possible shortages to devalued currency and inflation promise potentially life altering consequences for all of us.

My friend Sarah, a realtor in a small town in Georgia, took to social media the other day to share a “gratitude” post. She wrote about all the reasons she was grateful for this shutdown, and why she didn’t want life to ever go back to normal. Grateful for this shutdown? I couldn’t even wrap my head around it, and yet here was my friend, displaying some type of nostalgia for her state being shut down even as it was just beginning to open!

There is no such thing as “new” normal. It’s either normal, or abonormal. The progtard freaks and cowards want abnormal. And their form of abnormal is Communism.

Yup, Communism is their ‘new normal.’ No Way No How. Make America Free Again.

I’m sure a lot of people were quite comfortable with this freaky situation, and that’s fine. If she wants to work from home, I’m sure she could probably arrange it, and I expect a lot of employers will be glad for reduced office space needs, etc.

However, there are many other people who can’t or don’t want to work at home. There are many people who enjoy going out or participating in group activities like choirs, fitness groups, etc. Or even going to church. Just because she doesn’t care about these things doesn’t mean we should shape the whole world to suit her.

But that’s how progressives are. It’s not enough for just them to do something; they have to make sure everybody else does it too, just to accommodate them.

Great point. What was the whole excuse for passing ObamaDon'tCare? We are one paycheck away from financial disaster.

How long has this lockdown been going on? 12 weeks or so? That's 6 paychecks for most people.

And, yes, a lot of people are facing financial ruin. But demonicRATS aren't as concerned about that any more. In fact, they want it to go on longer. Some want it to go on indefinitely.

Kind of reminds me about the joke about the two guys who are out hiking when one of them gets bit by a rattlesnake and passes out. The other guy calls 911 and, in a panic, says to the dispatcher, "My friend was bit by a rattlesnake and he's dead!"

The dispatcher says, "Calm down, sir. First, we need to be sure he's dead."

The guy says, "Okay, just a second."

The dispatcher then hears the sound of a gunshot.

The guy gets back on the phone and says, "Okay. Now what?"

Likewise, demonicRATS want to make sure the American way of life is dead.

Interesting article and I can understand why for some people this is a break in their busy lives.

But, the reason they are comfortable is that the economic destruction has not yet hit. When it does, the vacation they are experiencing is over.

Life, for the most part, consists of hard work. The prosperity we enjoy today began with the sacrifices of our ancestors. It wont coast forever ....it can’t.

This new normal has one limitation. In order to succeed in this lifestyle, one must be independently wealthy AND self centered enough to shun all interaction with others.

Much like being a liberal arts major pursuing a degree in “pursuits of the idle rich”.

They want the “New Enslavement”. Nothing about what they’re doing is normal and never will be.

I think some people are confusing the “New Normal” with realizing their priorities were out of whack. Notice that the things she’s grateful for really have nothing to do with the virus, but that she had been taking her friends and family for granted.
