The 35-year-old woman suffered serious head and neck injuries, police and ambulance statements said. She was airlifted to a Sydney hospital and remained in critical condition.
Ambulance officer Faye Stockman described the attack as "absolutely harrowing," adding it was frightening to be the first to walk into the enclosure to treat the zookeeper.
"This is one of the worst jobs I have ever experienced," Stockman said in a statement.
Police Detective Superintendent Greg Moore said the two male lions were secured shortly after and posed no further threat.

Helpful hint: Secure the dangerous animals BEFORE entering their enclosures. Works like magic.
Hope the victim of the attack recovers fully.
Oh, dear, the poor young lady! I hope she’ll be okay.
Zoos are archaic.
So, did the lions walk into her office or did she enter their living room?

When I was young, the Rochester Museum and Science Center had a wonderful display of critters of every kind in woodland settings. It was a great education. Also...admission was free.
Now they've modernized the Museum, removed the displays and as far as I'm concerned....ruined the wonderful Museum of my youth. AND the entrance fees are outrageous.
James Herriot in “All Creatures Great and Small” had a wonderful chapter on how to “wrap a cat” when trying to trim nails, stitch wounds, et cetera.
I believe she entered their dining room.
