If some guy throws a Molotov cocktail through my window, I’m grabbing a gun and going after him. But if some guy litters on my front lawn, I’m not going to be grabbing a gun. I’ll settle with a call to 911.

How about if he stole one of your handguns? Is that sufficiently serious enough to treat the man seriously?

“How about if he stole one of your handguns?”

When did the police find the stolen handgun?

Was it on Arbury when he was killed?

Was the gun found in Arbury’s house or car?

Will the defense present the stolen gun as evidence in the trials?

Now, that’s an interesting hypothetical. I want to say no, it’s not worth the chase, and a possible gunfight at the end. I’d rather the police handle such a situation.

I want to say that I’d save a chase for when great bodily harm was done (or was threatened). And it’s not a matter of being timid. It’s a risk/reward kind of thing, like in poker. Take the risk if the reward is great enough.

And in the Arbery case, the reward (catching a petty thief) was not worth the risk of gunplay. That’s just my opinion. I understand that good people might disagree with that.

Side note to the Feds: Please note that I said “hypothetical” above. All of my guns were lost in a tragic boating accident years ago on Lake Titicaca.
