Urinals are probably more hygienic. You’re not really touching anything (unlike siting on a toilet). Though I do prefer the motion activated sensors. The only real danger with urinals is the occasional splash back.
There was just a recent story about how toilets have aerosolized drops and splashes on people. Drom both using them and then flushing them. Most public ones dont have lids so lots of stuff gets whipped up into the air when you flush.
Then seat sanitary conditions are always an issue...

But do they really think men are going to squat to pee? Besides urine on the seats, you can get as much splash and short firing with commodes as with well-made urinals. As a sign in my local gas station says, “Old soldiers with short muskets, stand closer to the firing line.” That solves most urinal AND commode problems.
This is a story made up by limp-, er, wrist liberals to have something to talk about.
You’re right. I can’t see how a toilet is more hygienic than a urinal. You’re just standing there, not touching anything.
“The only real danger with urinals is the occasional splash back.”
Seriously, there is nothing there that could not be fixed with a properly designed active ventilation system.
Why should one get wound up about splash back? When the urinal is flushed, a column of water washes the back splash clean. The splash back is all your own and if you have learned anything, it is how to aim the stream so there is no splash back. What really is irritating is a urinal flushing more water than it can contain; causing urine contaminated water to wash all over the floor. Your shoes step in that gross water and track it all over the place. I am sure some of it reaches the floor of your car.
It’s elbows and toes in a public potty.
