I completely agree with you. It’s why, after a brief interest in Rock music, I found myself attracted more to the music of my parent’s generation - Big Band, The Great American Song Book, Sinatra, etc. The music that preceded the emergence of Rock had a positive energy. The ascendency of Rock, as it transitioned from Rock & Roll, was when the music embraced anger and despair and became a celebration of ugliness and noise. There are exceptions of course. But that was definitely the trend. After finding the anger of the music briefly appealing, as a young boy, I realized it was not appealing to my best instincts and I turned away from it.
