And this upper middle class "whiteness" informs everything I've experienced about Pelotons almost cultish community.
LMAO. As the author acknowledges that is the demographic for a exercise bike starting at over $2,000 plus a $39 a month fee. Has the author not seen the ads of rich, good looking white people living in their upper 6 figure to 7 figure homes?
LOL I’ll stick to walking it’s free!
Hiking with my dogs in The Nature is almost entirely free, and I’d rather do that than virtually anything else.
And if I really, really wanted to ride my bike, I’d go ride my bike.
The Nordic Track ads on TV are completely embarrassing. The NT is interactive like Peloton, and the ads are replete with suggestions that riding the NT is kind of like belonging to a singles dating site. And, of course, everyone has oodles of money.
I once was a bicycle racer who competed at a national level. I have a trainer that hooks up to the internet for group rides which simulates hills and drafting other riders with video that I output to my big screen TV. It cost a fraction of what these Peleton Exercise bikes do and allows us to ride our own bikes on it, even our tandems.
Even though they are popular, I do not actually know any serious cyclists who own a Peleton. It just goes to show what millions of dollars of advertising can convince people to buy.
In my home I have a staircase (14 stairs down, 14 up) which I do 30 x a day = 840 steps in total. Add that to my daily walks and who needs a Peloton?
Just go ride bikes with your kids!
Look, if you can afford a high rise apartment with floor to ceiling windows as the people in the Peloton commercials own, then you can afford to wax eloquently about the sheer necessity of owning a Peloton.
Pass the Mayo, white woman!
The author is simply being asinine.
I have a feeling this company is going to be bust in a few months, these luxury items lose demand when the economy tanked
Right now they are giving away free access to the app
Wish I created an app that tells people to get off their rears and do something
He’s cool, does he wear his mask while spinning?
I have a Wahoo Kickr and a membership to Trainer Road. I can get all the same benefits at less than a third the price. A cheap friction or fluid trainer would save even more although it would lack the integration with the training apps.
I bought a recumbent bike exercise machine from a few years ago from Xterra for about $750. It’s great for low impact cardio while watching TV. Can do almost 1,000 calories in and hour.
If I had room, I’d also get a rowing machine. Probably one single best piece of cardio and resistance training machine you can get. Xterra has a nice ones for $400-900.
What a freaking LOSER Dave the male version of Karen is!
Hop on my Peleton? What an ahole. Go for a brisk 30 minute walk, pu**y. It will be better for you.
What a petty article from a petty mind.
I mean, seriously, it’s like going to Messico and complaining there’s no koto music in the cantinas and the management sucks because it’s catering to a messican cult instead of a Japanese tourist.
White America and white culture is not a ‘cult’. It’s the foundation of America. To marginalize America’s origins is ignorant - and racist.
I can do the same with my road bike, wahoo Kickr and Zwift..
Not to mention those guys buy 150 clipped pedal shoes for a stationary bike.
