The medical director of the Caja, Mario Ruiz, as the director of Pharmacoepidemiology, Marjorie Obando Elizondo, the director of the Children’s Hospital, Olga Arguedas and the minister of Health, Daniel Salas, confirmed the use of the drug and the success in mitigating and containing the progression of the virus and also in reducing the number of patients who must be hospitalized in intensive care units.
“In Costa Rica we have been applying hydroxychloroquine since we had a meeting by teleconference with personnel in China who attended the emergency in the cities of Shanghai and Wuhan,” explained Ruiz.
That videoconference, offered by the Chinese Embassy in Costa Rica, took place on the night of March 18. It included, among others, the director-general and the director of epidemiology of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (briefly as China CDC). [emphasis mine - ransomnote]

Fairly obvious...WHY waste time and effort with an affordable drug, already approved, has had some good reviews for this ‘problem’ and in stock at a ‘cheap price’.
NO sense going that way when Billions can be made testing a NEW drug which can make Trillions.
FOLLOW THE MONEY...
It is shameful.
The FDA, NIH and “Big Pharma” all provide huge funding to large university medical centers to run clinical trials/double-blind studies. These are necessary before new drugs (or drug treatments) can receive FDA authorization/approval. While I am not averse to “Big Pharma” in general, the current relationship between them and the various federal regulatory agencies is unhealthy and does not serve the taxpayer well.
Bottom Line: It is much more profitable for a university medical center to develop clinical trials for a new and relatively unknown drug than to approve a well known, safe, generic drug for a different (”off label”) use.
Terrible to put profit ahead of “we the people” Clean out the swamp, it’s deep and wide.
President Trump is devious. By promoting Hydroxychloroquine he is preventing TDS sufferers from using it to reduce their suffering and save their lives.
Exactly - it’s all about the money. Human lives, and especially older humans, are secondary.
Besides, Trump mentioned HCQ, and so it must be bad. Even worse, he’s been taking it for 2 weeks for its prophylactic effect.
From the first utterance of “hydroxychloroquine” as a potential treatment for #coronavirus, our media and Democrats have been in hysterical overdrive trying to discourage the sick from trying it.
