7th Congressional District in Wisconsin. Special Election due to Sean Duffy (R, WI) leaving to take care of a special needs child (on top of the 10 or twelve other kids he already has!)

We want Tom Tiffany (R) to win, v. Tricia Zunker (D)!

Polls closed at 8pm.

“As of Monday, data from the Wisconsin Elections Commission showed 112,892 people in the district had requested absentee ballots; 110,024 ballots had been sent out; and 76,259 had been returned. In the April 7 elections, a little more than half of those who voted in the district did so by absentee ballot. There are 423,239 registered voters in the district. About 201,000 voted in April.

Unlike in Wisconsin’s April elections, there is no extension to allow mail-in ballots to be received by clerks. All ballots must be in by 8 p.m. Election Day, and results are expected Tuesday night.

The winner will serve the remainder of the term, about six months. Both candidates have said that, win or lose, they intend to continue to campaign through November’s election.”

From NYT:

Wisconsin Democrats were hoping for a close margin in the heavily G.O.P. district. Trump carried it by 20 points in 2016, and currently Tiffany (R) leads by 15 with 77% reporting.

pray for our guy in California!

I worked in that district off/on for 30 years. The High Desert, home of 'Skunk Works,' Edwards AFB, etc is very conservative - the RATs got lucky and turned the seat in 2018. I'm optimistic it will flip back.

Here’s what Nate Silver’s site said the other day.....

The main event is in the California 25th Congressional District, a bellwether seat in the north Los Angeles suburbs, where both parties see a chance to add to their ranks in the House. But if Democrats are also competitive in the quickly reddening, rural Wisconsin 7th Congressional District, it could signal another blue wave in the fall.

Well, dems weren’t competitive in the Wisconsin race.

RATs are claiming a 'moral victory' by shaving 5,000 votes off Trump victory in 2016. But looking at the data, the RAT candidate is a school board member from Wausau. "The Wisconsin special election saw a huge surge in absentee ballots [In Wausau], with more than 85,000 received by Tuesday morning."

So likely, a school board member, was able to use the teacher unions to turn out a fair number of absentee ballots.
