Excellent explanation. I wanna add one more thing to this hypothesis. The individuals who are G6PD(Gluose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme) deficient which is responsible for the production of reduced electron carrier NADPH in the first reaction of Pentose Phosphate Pathway (PPP) which recycles the oxidised GSSG to GSH by Glutathione reductase. They are the ones who are susceptible to COVID-19 as they lack this enzyme in their gene which leads to build up of oxidative stress. There are significant population of these individuals.
That’s interesting. I just googled and found this:
https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/covid19/85929
“In the United States, reports have shown that African Americans may be dying at a higher rate from COVID-19 than the rest of the population, and 10% of African-American males are affected by G6PD deficiency.”
Also more common among Mediterraneans which may partially explain why Spain and Italy had such a tough time with COVID-19.
