“Are we really dealing with a known (past) Coronavirus?”
Is that why this is 19?
A post from another thread BTT:
“The folks at the Wuhan Institute of Virology apparently compared the DNA[sic] sequencing of this virus and found it was a very close match to a bat coronavirus they collected from the wild a few years ago, so maybe that is what he was talking about.”
So, they had the sequence. It was named to indicate its existence (not with its RNA sequence like other understudied virii). It was known.
Then ignored?
Another thought
Trump could be using his Spanish Flu of 1917 (start year) to signal that the COVID-19 has been around before?
It is 19 because that is the year it was discovered. It is called “novel” corona virus because its first time for this particular strain. There are lots of corona virus, the common cold is a corona virus!

Maybe they released two versions, 16 and 19. Early on, hubby and I each saw material regarding 2 different strains. Would explain the highly varied symptoms described, and differences reported between areas.
