As we all await in our homes hoping for some good news so we can resume our once active lives, there has never been a better time to reflect on the glory days of Rock. Attempting to pick an all time top 10 list has proven a great excuse to listen to some of the all time great rock anthems, but has also brought the pain of leaving legends of rock without the ranking they deserve.
There are far too many apologies to even begin listing here, although The Who and the Jimi Hendrix experience were the next two to be chosen. The desire to throw in a deserved left field selection like The Bee Gees(pre Disco of course) or tragically underrated Australian gems like The Skyhooks and Cold Chisel was unfortunately thwarted due to the quality bands that would be forced to be left out.
The criteria for this list came down to a few key factors, including worldwide recognition, the quantity of quality singles and albums produced, the band's overall impact and influence, and the ability to be embraced by a wide audience. While Top 40 success was not the sole criteria here, it was definitely taken into consideration, as was the band's ability to create music that has lasted the test of time.
So while this writer hopes you get some Satisfaction from this list, please Don't Cry on the comments section and learn to just Let it Be if you disagree.

Author's picks (NOT MINE):
10. Fleetwood Mac
9. U2
8. Guns 'N' Roses
7. Queen
6. The Doors
5. AC/DC
4. Pink Floyd
3. The Beatles
2. Led Zeppelin
1. The Rolling Stones
I forgot Grand Funk Railroad too, saw them in Germany in 1971, they were the most popular rock band back then.
The Beach Boys were a pop/bubblegum vocal group who used studio musicians (Wrecking Crew) for their recordings.
In addition, their iconic album “Pet Sounds” were based on the lyrics of Tony Asher - Brian Wilson simply wrote and arranged the music.
What, no Cowsills, Monkees, or Bay City Rollers?
Yeah, I forgot Cream and Grand Funk Railroad too. Too many great bands from that era.
The Partridge Family? Are you kidding me?
Nothing but a cheap ripoff of The Cowsills.
And you don’t even mention The Monkees?
Or Spinal Tap?
Is rock music defined in part, by a rhythmic beat, by a certain guitar riff style, or what?
Is rock perhaps in the ear of the beholder, or to paraphrase what someone once said of pornography, that they knew it when they saw it. In that case, is rock recognized when rock music fans hear it???
#1 is Credence Clearwater Revival
That was the band Paul McCartney was in before "Wings", right?
Also, I value White Castle burgers and Filet Mignon equally, because my tastes in all things are the correct ones.
1. Led Zepplin
2. Doors
3. Aerosmith
4. The Who
5. Boston
6. Deep Purple
7. Black Sabbath
8. Eagles
9 Ted Nugent
10. Alice Cooper
Little Feat w/Lowell George was faaar better than most if not all the bands on that list.
Yeah, that was a terrible tragedy. Saw him and Chicago twice early '70's.
Peter Grant threatened GFR's manager if he didn't get them off the bill with Led Zeppelin, because they were blowing Led Zeppelin off the stage
Or so I've heard 😆😆
Please add in ZZ Top
Watching reruns of Miami Vice the other night and the lead in song was Legs!
I saw a lot of concert videos on YouTube, this may be my favorite one of all
Chicago at Tanglewood 1970

“Chicago Transit Authority”...NOT “Chicago”
