Excess deaths is the total number of dead over a time period minus the normal expected number of dead for that time of year based on historical data. There are some Fearpers who post data showing that there are excess deaths in NYC and in Italy. There have been excess deaths due to CV - but these excess deaths still don’t make it rise beyond a flu season. Note that the CV deaths stats from CDC are not relevant to this - what is relevant is how many people are dying of all causes compared to how many normally die.

The CDC data is on a lag and the disclaimers say it is possible for some deaths to be 8 weeks late to make it to the data. Watching these numbers for almost 8 weeks it seems that changes to the data beyond 3 weeks appear to be immaterial. The normal number of deaths, according to the CDC, is approximately 57k per week in the USA over the time period. The maximum number of USA deaths according to worldometer occurred the week before April 11 (so we are on the downswing) - that week had 13k excess deaths. These are the numbers to watch over the coming weeks but there is still nothing to indicate that the number of excess deaths will go beyond influenza levels.
In other news...why did Governor Abbott feign outrage when a Democrat judge made a ruling that put a hairdresser in jail for refusing to close because she wanted to feed her kids? Democrats will usually rule/judge in a way that we don’t like so why pass the stupid lockdown rule to begin with? The lockdown rule was always going to be interpreted by Dems in a way that is tyrannical. Abbott should be held responsible for his stupid executive order.

Still averaging 30,000 new cases a day and averaging over 2,000 deaths a day. 76,942 deaths to date.
With the new cases averaging 30,000 a day the 2k+ death rate will continue with no relief.
With social distancing measures being relaxed as they are now in many states the average new case rates will climb, as will the deaths.
The month of April saw over 65k deaths and it’s likely May will see more than that, possibly 50% more and above.
As the daily new cases mount and increase the death rate will also climb although lag a few weeks behind the new case increases.
It is my prediction that the US death rate will increase to near 100k per month until November as winter starts and then all bets are off.
As much as we think we have this under control we do not, it’s only going to get worse before it gets better, it will be years before this over, and that really sux.

I’m not saying we haven’t done a lot of damage, I’m just saying there is no way out of this, it’s happening, it’s going to happen, it’s going to get worse before it gets better. And winter will be a living hell as this mixes with the seasonal flu and people freak out and the likely-hood that COVID-19 spreads much more rapidly here in the US during winter.
For those that think “we’re coming out of this” it’s going to be a very long and disappointing year or two ...

2. The average age of death in PA is 79.6 which is exactly the national average
3. The German data are good and in consensus with increasing points of epidemiological data

States basking in the sun like Florida have just as many cases. The sunshine thing is BS, the seasonal Flu is just as bad in warm sunny states as it is in the north.
Also, I never stated anything about whether we should or should not do social distancing, I merely said we are nowhere near the end of this and it’s going to still get worse before it gets better.
I follow each website. Did you know the source data for that website includes possible cases. Did you know that they report deaths that are retrospective several weeks on the day the website detects it. It’s why the death rate is not dropping. Go to the New York department of health site. You will see that the curves are falling quickly.
You have fallen into taking the website to be absolutely true. Sadly you have not researched the data. Go to the primary sources. Much different picture

“Real” death impact numbers won’t be known for a year. Counting deaths is a waste of time, as this was never going to kill that many people.
As long as there are beds in the ICU, get out and spread it around. But anyone thinking the “recovery” will be V shaped is delusional. The mechanics of the economy are wrecked because the international supply chain is ruined. THAT will leave a mark.
I would just be slightly cautious about declaring “Mission Accomplished” until we see what happens in the fall.

So you’re saying that Covid-19 is a totally unprecedented virus, exhibiting mortality rates and sustainability not seen in a hundred years, when medical science was primitive compared to today and a global war was on? That it will behave unlike the Hong Kong Flu, Swine Flu, MERS, on H1N1 or any other virus we have lived through?
