Nation's stockpile proves no match for the coronavirus pandemic
CNN ^ | May 7, 2020 | Sara Murray and Scott Glover

As complaints about dire shortages of protective gear for medical workers on the frontlines of the Covid-19 crisis began to stream in, President Donald Trump was quick to point the finger of blame at his predecessor, Barack Obama.

It was Obama and other administrations, he said, who left the shelves of the nation's Strategic National Stockpile bare of the items needed to combat the coronavirus. To an extent, the President was right. The Obama administration did use and then failed to replace items from the stockpile to fight the 2009 H1N1 "swine flu" pandemic.

Shipping bodies to Connecticut for cremation is not “fudging the numbers”.

Quit projecting. NYC is not the rest of the USA. Alabama is not NYC. California is not NYC. Stop it. NYC is dirty, crowded and unique. Unfortunately, that is where all the media lives.

as usual, accuse The President of making stuff up!

6 May: Business Insider: Trump reportedly believes — without evidence — that the US COVID-19 death toll is too high because hospitals are inflating their numbers to get more money
by Ashley Collman
President Donald Trump reportedly believes that the US coronavirus death count is being exaggerated, Axios reported Wednesday, citing unnamed senior administration officials.
The sources said the president and some of his aides believe that hospitals may be misdiagnosing patients with the coronavirus to get a 20% bonus from Medicare...
However, experts believe that the coronavirus death toll is being underreported, if anything...
There is no public evidence that hospitals have been abusing this system, USA Today reported...

It marks yet another example of Trump disagreeing with experts during the outbreak, from his recent speculation that the virus could just “disappear” to his constant pushing of a theory that the virus originated in a Wuhan lab...

A senior White House official defended the president’s thinking to Axios.
“Skepticism isn’t the right way to frame it. The numbers have been revised up to include presumptive cases — meaning deaths that are believed to be related to COVID but not known for sure,” the official said...
“So he’s expressed the need to properly convey that to American people so they’re not startled by why numbers ticked up.”...

In one example, Fox News analyst Brit Hume pushed a theory for an inflated death count, saying people with underlying conditions who die quickly after contracting coronavirus may have been killed by their own previous issues rather than the disease.
But Dr. Deborah Birx, one of the leading physicians advising the Trump administration during the outbreak, said that idea was wrong.
“Those individuals will have an underlying condition, but that underlying condition did not cause their acute death when it’s related to a COVID infection,” Birx said. “In fact, it’s the opposite.”

8 Apr: Real Clear Politics: Dr. Birx: Unlike Some Countries, “If Someone Dies With COVID-19 We Are Counting That As A COVID-19 Death”
By Tim Hains
DR. DEBORAH BIRX: So, I think in this country we’ve taken a very liberal approach to mortality. And I think the reporting here has been pretty straightforward over the last five to six weeks. Prior to that when there wasn’t testing in January and February that’s a very different situation and unknown.

There are other countries that if you had a preexisting condition and let’s say the virus caused you to go to the ICU and then have a heart or kidney problem some countries are recording as a heart issue or a kidney issue and not a COVID-19 death. Right now we are still recording it and we will I mean the great thing about having forms that come in and a form that has the ability to market as COVID-19 infection the intent is right now that those if someone dies with COVID-19 we are counting that as a COVID-19 death.

Dubya Bush was given a book about the 1918 Flu and read it. Then he talked with the writer of it, and set about planning for another pandemic. (It sounds like these big ones happen every 100 yeears or so). He got some things set up and budgets, etc., but they went to the side when Obama got in.

It sounds like Obama was able to use some of the stockpiles that Bush had set up and used/depleted for the Swine Flu.

I’m not projecting.

I’m pointing-out that between mid-February and mid-April 15000 more people died in New York than typically die during that period in ordinary years.

You’re saying “It’s just the flu”. “Just the flu” killed an extra 250 people per day during that period.

If you look at all deaths, the flu deaths are down. If you die in NYC they don't test the corpse it is listed as COVID.

I'll tell you what. You stay in your basement cowering in fear and I will throw Lean Cuisines down there so you won't starve. Ok?

The rest of us with functioning brains and intact cojones will go on without you, Deal?

Why should any country (or anyone for that matter) try to prepare for something like Coronavirus. After all it’s “Just the Flu”, right Bros?

I am referring to the videos I have seen of people spitting on elevator buttons and physically touching every laptop computer on display in an American store

CDC says less than 40,000 have died total

We also need to make sure that China is not our provider of PPE

Same with medicines

“As for NYC, live like crowded rats then die like crowded rats.”

Of course it didn’t help much that the government, all liberal, invited the public to act as normal while coercing them to use the subways, buses, and entertain themselves in public areas that placed them in a large amount of person contact, when others were warning of the virus passing possibilities. NYC is no different in closeness of population than any other big city in the US. And the only other big city that even started to rival NYC was LA.

But the interesting thing is the way the line gets flat is when the sick get well. It’s like a wood fire burning. As long as the embers don’t blow away to rekindle the next door neighbor’s house, the fire will burn out its fuel (wood) and go out. Which gives me the possible thought that the spreading of the virus in NY was done purposely to get by it. It may kill more because more are available, but they will get through it consistent with other smaller populated areas that fight it using opposite theory. And the trail of different thought (screw ups) matches that theory.

And I wouldn’t put it past liberals as they will take credit for getting through the virus about the same as smaller populations and call it a win for the public and right off those they set up to get the illness so their idea could hatch and they could ride in on that white horse. Not to be trusted.

NYC is different. It is THE only city in the USA that is not auto-centric. They really do live in close contact and walk/ride everywhere.

It so different, packed and close get this: I had never met an adult without a driver license until I met a guy from NYC, in his 30's no less, that had never driven a car. He had no desire to ever learn how to and seemed proud of that. I was floored by that. I said as a counter, that I had never ridden in a public transit bus of any kind, ever. He thought I was lying.

It’d be nice to have some “Reusable” mask (even if a filter needs to be changed) since there is a chance of these things happened again (with some totally different pandemic) and also the masks allegedly have limited shelf life (maybe the fastening straps should be separately attached so if they shrink they whole contraption isn’t wasted).

A reusable mask would require daily cleaning but so do bandannas.

A reusable mask would also provide some protection in case of petrochemical plant disasters, certain gas attacks, etc.

“I had never met an adult without a driver license until I met a guy from NYC...”

I agree with that. And I feel it was used to accomplish the goal I was mentioning. You use the moniker central_va, which is so spread out in California that bus service would be impossible. (I rode the greyhound down from Sacramento where I was stationed, years ago to attend my grandmother’s funeral. I sat right behind the driver at the change in Fresno and when I got off the bus in Goshen, my father was there to pick me up late and his gun was on the seat. Mine was next to me on the bus. The bus was full of illegals going back to TJ or Mexicali with their radios, TV;s and assorted stuff to sell. The driver was unhappy when I left. So even the service was questionable safe.)

Liberal controlled states like NY try to herd people into public transportation and make it difficult to own and use a car. I live in Washington State now and they have been trying for years to get cars off the roads with bus services and the Sounder trains. The Bart in San Francisco goes clear up into Auburn now. all the way across the northern valley from the coast. It accomplishes their goal of “ecology” and raises funds for the coffers. In this case, I feel it was a tool concerning the virus.

We’ll have to wait and see if they claim credit for getting NYC through this expediently even though they will call the greater amount of deaths expected (collateral) damage due to population size.
