Can bears be fitted with masks while living in populated areas?
I live 7 miles from the nearest small town. I have one neighbor my mother-in-law about 125 yards from me and we allow a mutual friend to hunt on the 200 or so acres we own, no one else. It’s turkey season here and he was set up in his blind last week and heard something coming through the woods toward him.
In a few minutes he saw a black bear he estimated to be in the 275-300lbs range and it headed straight towards him. He carries an old break top single shot .10gauge shotgun for hunting turkeys. He was loaded with a heavy round for turkey and was preparing to defend himself. The bear closed to 20 yards and stopped suddenly, looking at him and sniffing. He had decided if it took another step toward him to engage the beast. Fortunately it sniffed, looked at him and grunted loudly and ran off in the opposite direction. My wife was out walking her German Shepard yesterday and took a picture of a scat pile on part of the cleated property which was big and bear, so he’s still about. Keeping my .44 Virginian Dragoon with heavy hunting rounds close when out and about and a .12 gauge mossy 500 with 2 rds of 8 shot to sting and 2 slugs at the end of the line in case he charges.
