The attitudes you talk about may explain why the US - unlike virtually every European country following similar social-distancing protocols - has not seen a drop in CV deaths. Most countries saw a steady rise in deaths, a peak of about a week, followed by a steady decline (albeit with occasional up-ticks). Their graphs look like mountains - up, then down.
On the other hand, the US saw a steady rise, followed by a plateau that is now more than a month long. Every time we see a drop for a couple of days, it bounces right back up. It's doing it again today, dammit.
