Mr. Blue Sky brings back some memories. I was in 7th grade at the time and there was this AM radio station that played this song at the same time every morning as I was getting dressed for school. Pretty positive way to start the day, wouldn’t you say.

Then there was this one with the unmistakable opening violin.

I would highly recommend the album “Annie in Wonderland” by Annie Haslam, ex vocalist from Renaissance. It was produced by Roy Wood, who also wrote some of the material, arranged all the songs and played nearly all of the instruments.

That brought back some memories.

I’ll see your violin and raise you a few cellos:

“Turn to Stone” is another good one, and so is “Telephone Line.”

I was going to mention “Livin’ Thing,” but I see someone else beat me to it.

ELO is my #1! The recent tour was outstanding and can be found on DishTV under “Jeff Lynne’s ELO” (as if any ELO fan here doesn’t know that :)) . Also, in the early 80s, both Bev and Tandy released solo albums. If you can find them, it’s “bonus ELO”, much like “The Move”.

Annie is actually Mrs Roy Wood. It’s a good match; she can sing anything and Roy can play anything.

To go back even further, to where young Birmingham prodigy Jeff Lynne’s chinny-chin-chynne saw the light of day, there’s The Idle Race.

Did you know Jeff Lynn produced a solo album for three out of four of the Beatles? George, Paul and Ringo.

I stumbled across this several months ago, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBZpc4s6ATA

Live from their 2001 comeback tour and they do an unbelievable job. Also, many have stumbled across it and watched the whole thing just because of the backup singer:) (Who he had a thing with for a while)

The newer songs are a little odd. Country music with the Jeff Lynn sound. ???

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Lynne#Producer_discography

Also produced Bryan Adams, Traveling Wilbury’s, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison. Quite the prolific producer, self taught.

Listen to "Down Home Town" from "Face the Music", puts the 'Bro Country' folks to shame.

Not big on country and I can’t stand the new hip hop country rap crap and pop country is just pop music that sounds like all other pop music.

Hard to watch this video without tears. One of their finest:
Boy Blue
~ Electric Light Orchestra ~

Jeff is a genius composer, Bev has good taste in drum kits!

I don't know what happened to the link, but here's a fixed version. It leads to a live performance of Telephone Line:

You should lookup the cover done by Postmodern Jukebox. They do rock songs in the style of 1940’s ballads. It’s pretty cool.

My wife and I saw ELO in concert a couple years ago in Houston and they were AMAZING. Jeff Lynne still has his voice, and he never missed a note. His current lineup was also filled with fantastic musicians and singers. Great, great concert.
