I know that the social distancing measures are working, because I have been keeping records since Mar 12. On April 29, there were 3.1 million cases of Covid-19 worldwide. But if the virus were spreading at the same rate as before any social distancing measures were implemented, there would have been around 14.5 million cases by that date.

Can you share those records?

And I went to my local Walmart and picked up a couple pounds of ground beef to replace the meat we used to make tacos...

We haven't used many 'curbside' services so I couldn't tell you if any business down here has been impacted by beef shortages....but it's not really unexpected with the President having to order meat processing plants to keep working.

I try to spread some reality, because I see a lot of people are getting tired of the quarantine and are pressuring governments to end it. Yes, I get it—limits on social interaction are a real inconvenience and make small businesses struggle. But unless and until the pandemic is truly contained, going back to life as it was pre-pandemic is terribly dangerous and foolhardy. I wish more people understood that!

And, from my days working on the pandemic team: an outbreak is considered over when there are no new cases for two incubation periods. For Covid-19, that means no new cases for a month. We’re not there yet.

Our little grocery store gets wiped out of beef every weekend. Meanwhile, I drive by 20 beef cattle farms on the way there. Big AG has become too centralized.

The majority of people who have died are elderly and infirm. They are not the driving force behind the economy.

And where you get this "millions" of people dying figure is beyond me. It was touted by followers of bad modeling at the beginning but quickly proved to be drastically overstated and wrong.

Everything affects the economy in some way but people dying annually from the flu and disease doesn't cause the economy to fail like it is now.

We have shot ourselves in the foot to try and treat a hangnail on our small toe. The cure will be worse than the bug itself.

When's the last time you heard of shutting down businesses and employment to save people from a flu bug? Never.

The majority of people who have died are elderly and infirm. They are not the driving force behind the economy.

So, the elderly should just die off and make room for the young. Gotcha.

The death rate does go up by age. Even in the 20-44 age range, the death rate is 0.1-0.2, which puts it even or above the death rate of influenza. It goes up with increased age, so people at prime working age, 44-65 have a 1.4 to 2.6 death rate, (https://www.libertynation.com/the-demographics-of-u-s-covid-19-deaths-and-why-they-matter/). People who have diabetes, obesity, heart problems, high blood pressure, etc., are very prone to serious complications and death. When we went to sign the settlement papers for a house we recently sold, the settlement officer told us that a 22 year old woman he knew died of it that same day.

And where you get this "millions" of people dying figure is beyond me.

It is based on the biology of disease transmission. As of this morning, 1.16 million people in the US have caught Covid-19, with nearly 68 thousand deaths. Or, to put it another way, 0.35% of the US population has caught Covid-19. Keep in mind that Covid-19 is a cold virus, with similar transmissibility, and that the entire US population (outside of those who already caught it) has no immunity to it and is therefore susceptible to catching it. So what do you think happens if the quarantines are lifted and measures to stop the spread of disease are discontinued? If half of the population of the US were to catch Covid-19--which is very possible if it is allowed to spread freely in a non-immune population--then millions of people will die (actually, about 9 million would die, based on the current death rate). The death rate right now in the US is 5.8% and climbing, but it would go much higher if the disease were to be allowed to spread freely because there would be no health care workers available to take care of all of the ill. Do you seriously think that doing nothing to contain Covid-19, and instead letting it spread freely among the population, will have no economic effect???

When's the last time you heard of shutting down businesses and employment to save people from a flu bug? Never.

You've never heard of the 1917-1919 influenza H1N1 pandemic, aka the Spanish flu, have you? Quarantines were imposed then, too, as they have been throughout history to try to stop pandemics. Also, FYI, Covid-19 is not a flu. It is a cold. A very deadly cold.

You sound like the global warming extremists. Save the planet. Kill yourself.

This virus is not going away if we stay indoors hiding from it. What good will it do if we keep destroying the economy, the very engine we rely on to survive and thrive? More people might survive but at what cost? They'll have no jobs, no homes, no income for food and the bare essentials of existing. Their livelihoods and lives will be destroyed anyway.

People are not going to tolerate this forced authoritarianism much longer. We are a free country with rights to move about and associate with who we want. Some wanna-be dictator governors or bureaucrats are not going to stop that.

Really? If the virus is denied chances to spread, it will not go away? In what microbiology/infectious disease class did you learn THAT tidbit of information?

Have you stopped to consider that the economy would be pretty much destroyed if everyone got sick (with up to 7% of them dying)? And that the economic destruction caused by having the death rate so suddenly spike would not go away any time soon? Right now, we are making progress in controlling the virus, and it will actually go away if we keep it up. The economy will recover, since healthy people are eager to go back to work.

Sweden did not have a lockdown. Experts predicted that it would have 40,000 COVID-19 deaths by May 1. The actual number was 2,769. And declining.

If masks work, why did businesses need to be closed down? And if they don't work, why are we being forced to wear them?

Conservatives want to go back to work so they can support their families and pay their bills.

Liberals want to stay locked down in their homes and have the government support their families and pay their bills Translation: the conservative taxpayers who have gone back to work.

Nothing has changed.
