The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area.

Longtime radio personality and The Big Broadcast host Ed Walker passed away early on Oct. 26 at age 83. We invite you to leave your thoughts and remembrances.

Saying Goodbye To Ed Walker

Ed Walker spent 65 years on the radio. His last program was unlike any other.

How did it go?

Not certain of the adherence to “jus in bello” or the statute of limitations; I witnessed some individuals having a very good time.

I hope people were exercising their freedom as American citizens to NOT WEAR MASKS if they don’t want to. I don’t want to, and I don’t.

Hi, Vision! I guess Murray is giving a nod to the 75th anniversary of VE Day coming up this week.

How YOU doin’?

Things are good here Gina. On a whim I bought some dried pinto beans yesterday and am very happy with how they came out. How are you all?

Oh, good! Pinto beans are good stuff, however you make them.

We’re doing fine. Today is Keith’s birthday, so we’re having some special ribeyes on the grill and garlic and cheese mashed potatoes. By “special,” I mean prime grade.

Oh, good. Just went out to get a few provisions for upcoming meals. Tonight it's tikka masala chicken over ginger-coconut jasmine rice and garlic tandoori naan bread. The wife's jonesing for meatloaf, so I was able to find a chub. I also located some hard-to-find stewing beef to make slow cooker steak and ale beef stew, and picked up the veggies for it on the way. They weren't kidding about meat shortages hitting. Walmart looked like it did when they first announced the virus fiasco - whole sections stripped bare, this time it's the meat section, including lunchmeat. Walmart has also instituted one-way lanes, for crying out loud. Green floor squares with arrows saying 'Shop This Way'. Red ones with an X saying 'Wrong Way'. I said, nuts to that. I didn't take a pimp stick with me, so I wasn't about to walk an extra 150 feet to get to something I see 25 feet away. So call me Mr. Menace 2 Society. Next time I'll come in with my blue ash pimp stick with the horse's hame handle, and whomp someone on the noggin if they roust me. LOL

I gotta go give The Meat Machine one more good spray and put a new cover on my backup grill. I've been sandbagging all week.

‘They’ were doing all of that as well as skirting the realm of guerrilla warfare with the judicious application of ‘Monkey Warfare’.

With the extent of surveillance now a days there were masks worn that may have been effective against the mediademic while protecting deniability. LOL

Ah, yes! That’s wise, because it’s for a different and compelling reason. :-D

Yeah, they got the one-way stickers on the floor at the Walmarkets and Walmarts here, too. SHEESH! I’m just angry enough at this whole communist power-grab that I deliberately go “the wrong way” down aisles. Just because. NUTS!

Anyway, your food sounds EXCELLENT, Viking! :-)

Hey, Gina! My mother has Dad’s old anniversary gift from the folks who used to work with him at WCMD-AM 1230. It’s one of those more rectangular mics (it was antiquated even then, it’s probably a good 75 years old now - a Johnny Carson-style desk mic that would have been on a boom arm in a production studio), mounted on a presentation base with holders for two pens, and it has a brass plaque on the front that says, ‘Mr. Radio’. She wanted me to have it last Christmas, but I was too sick with the flu to mention it to her. Fifty years he spent, mainly behind a mic, but was also a PD and manager at some of the stations he drifted to.
