Weymouth woman 'threw unexploded WW2 bomb across garden'
BBC ^ | May 3, 2020 | BBC

A woman who dug up an unexploded World War Two bomb in her garden said she threw it across the lawn for her dog before she realised what it was.

Lulu Cirillo, 49, was gardening at her home in Weymouth when her spade struck the bomb 10in (25.4cm) down.

She thought it was a large stone and took it inside before taking to Facebook to ask people what they thought it was.

The bomb was detonated on Weymouth Beach at about 21:00 BST on Saturday.

When Ms Cirillo dug the device up, she initially thought her pet Shih Tzu Cica might want to play with it.

She said: "I thought it was a stone so I threw it. It was muddy - I never thought it could be a bomb."

The fact that this woman threw this UXB for her little Shih-Tzu ankle-biter, like it was a toy...

Yeah, the horrible jokes just write themselves. :P

“Danger UXB” is a FANTASTIC show. Highly recommended to all who have not seen it.

I’m between shows now...maybe I should rewatch it.

There was no exact point where this genius thought it was a bomb. The dog might have sniffed it out thinking “hey stupid, it’s a damn bomb and you want me to play with it?”

Do you know what kind of bomb it was?

The exploding kind.

She has a Shih Tzu. Anything she found in the dirt was probably bigger than her dog. She thought the dog was going to play with it?

I’m guessing it wasn’t a 500 pound blockbuster.

Brits called their hand grenades “bombs”, as in “Mills Bomb”.

In fairness to the woman, it’s not something that looks like a typical bomb.

So it’s like “chips” vs “fries”?
And “biscuits” vs “cookies”?
If a hand grenade is a “bomb,” what do the Brits call a bomb?

That was a seriously strong woman, tossing bombs around, good thing it was not one of those block busters. It took two healthy Marines to hand load a 250lb bomb by hand.

“So it’s like “chips” vs “fries”?”

So if fries are “chips”, then “What are chips?” you might ask.

They’re crisps.
