ATLANTA (Gray News) Americas flu season continues to ebb even as COVID-19 cases increase, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Lab-confirmed flu cases are now low, but the CDC believes thats because fewer people are going to doctors because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Overall flu-like activity is lower than a week ago but is still elevated.
The percent of deaths associated with pneumonia and influenza is above the epidemic threshold, the agency said Friday.
The increase is due to an increase in pneumonia deaths rather than influenza deaths and likely reflects COVID-19 activity.
The severity of this seasons flu viruses remains moderate to low overall.
The CDC estimates that so far there have been at least 24,000 deaths from flu, 39 million flu illnesses and 410,000 hospitalizations.
Hospitalization rates differ by age group, with high rates among children and young adults.
A total of 166 influenza-associated deaths in children have been reported this season. Thats an increase of 4 since last weeks report.
This number is high compared to recent seasons but remains lower than the 2017-2018 season during which 188 pediatric deaths were reported, the CDC said.
Flu activity was high in the District of Columbia and 19 states.
It was moderate in Alabama, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Washington.
It was low in California, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia.
Only minimal amounts of flu were reported in Puerto Rico, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
Flu shots are recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older.
I wonder how many seasonal flu deaths have been moved to the COVID-19 category?
Would love to have an unbiased analysis of the methodology the CDC uses to accurately determine how many people really died of influenza. The methodology uses hocus pocus algorithms.
Most of them...
The experts dont want to mention the obvious. People are being careful due to COVID and that means that fewer people are being infected by the flu as well.
Not the current map at all, most of the country is green right now... https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm#ILIActivityMap
Except New Jersey for some reason.
Certainly NOT when politics and money is involved!!!
That is because they are throwing every death in the Covid19 column. Why are H1N1 flu deaths DOWN by thousands? Those were added into the Covid19 Column. The damned Democrats have even politicized this. Look at the states still closed down ... mostly Democrat.
Ah, but you are not allowed to ask that question.
! You are not even allowed to think of such a question.
Nationwide during week 17, 1.8% of patient visits reported through the U.S. Outpatient Influenza-like Illness Surveillance Network (ILINet) were due to influenza-like illness (ILI). This percentage is below the national baseline of 2.4%.
On a regional level, the percentage of outpatient visits for ILI ranged from 0.9% to 3.7% during week 17. Compared to last week, the percent of outpatient visits for ILI increased in region 5, but decreased in all other regions. Regions 1, 2, 3, and 10 reported a percentage of outpatient visits for ILI above their region-specific baselines. All other regions are below their region-specific baselines.
Data collected in ILINet are used to produce a measure of ILI activity* by state.
During week 17, the following ILI activity levels were experienced:

Totally hyped compared to other causes of death. State by State is also a joke. In the entire State of Texas only 446 CV deaths and the entire State was shut down along with other States with hardly any deaths. What is wrong with people believing this crap.
Maybe the people who are dying have both the flu and the wuflu. Double whammy.
And a lot of those 24k Wuhan flu deaths are probably fake also...
I wonder where that number came from. I checked the CDC website and it says the estimated number of deaths from influenza this flu season is 62 000 (as of 4 Apr, the most recent I could find).
I believe they use the death certificate submitted by the local authorities. So the CDC is just the collector of whatever the local authorities say.
Most of the Texas deaths are in Long term care facilities and Nursing homes.
Protect the vulnerable and the elderly, and the rest of us can get back to work.
And it’s May for chrissakes.
WTH are you posting this article from April 10??
GEE I WONDER WHY!!!
