What I find curious about this chart is that the overall number of deaths is not more than 100% of the previous years. If COVID-19 is a pandemic, beyond our normal number of expected deaths shouldn’t we be seeing an increase in the number of deaths?

A friend in the medical professional told me this is what is termed "replacement deaths." No change in total number, only the cause. He put it into rather callous terms: "they would have died anyway."
