It's a lesson in the nature of power.

If you want to protect the elderly, wear a mask. Make one at home, don’t consume medical resources. Why is that hard, or why does it offend you?

"So? Show us where the US constitution says we can set it aside for a virus?? Go ahead, we’ll wait. Show us the clause in the constitution that says, “All rights shall be suspended if the magic words ‘state of emergency’ are uttered.”

Every action taken that I am aware of is fully within the defined power of the states or the FedGov, either by the federal separation of powers, or laws passed by Congress.

If you don't like it, write your legislators.

2300 + dead
28000 new cases.

That's the global number. I was referring to the US, although the numbers of new cases and deaths here have gone way up since I last checked about four hours ago.

You neglected to end your rant with"Hiel Hitler" and inform him that you was reporting him for defeatist talk. Other than that you were pretty good at what you are.

Oh please, but it out! The lockdowns were to prepare the hospitals for a peak they couldn’t handle, not to prevent people from getting the disease! Go hide under you bed and let the rest of us live our lives.

No, only those who have real health problems need to do so! The rest need to live normal lives, not cower in fear! When did Americans become so gutless!

Really? The projections were for 2 million dead not 60,000! You don’t shut down a nation for 60,000 dead! And most of them had other physical conditions as well. The only idiot is you and your gutless tyrants who would destroy the Constitution! Stay at home, it is safer, the rest of us have lives to live.

60,000 in a population of over 300 million. Keep the context!
Shutdowns were to prevent overwhelming hospital system, not prevent people from getting infected.

The vast majority of the dead are in democrat run states and cities. 17,000 plus and counting in New York with most in nursing homes and many killed by the Gov Cuomo order to put infected people in the nursing homes!

I have worked in science related fields since the 1990’s and am currently in biotech. I have a great respect for scientists of all types; however, they usually have no grasp of business concepts and/or leadership abilities. There is a reason why so many science start-up companies crash and burn.
The best boss I EVER had worked many years in a family business before he went back to school for a science degree and then became and is a major player in the biotech arena. He learned the fundamentals first and then applied them to the science business. Just my observations over the years.

I’m still waiting for the plague to come. This is it? 3 million infected in a globe of 7 billion. Under 300,000 dead? I’m a numbers sort of person and the numbers here are frankly boring.

I am not near and elderly folk at this point. So why should I do a damn thing? Let THEM make the concession for their own safety. It's THEIR a$$ not mine. What's so hard to understand? So please stick your face mask up your Obama.

The ENGINEER in me tells me our limited resources should be spent protect that small minority group.

I thought you did have some concern for the elderly from the above statement.

I am not yet elderly. I am physically fit and a productive citizen, but I do have hypertension. I work with people more vulnerable than I am. I have a disabled son and an 82 year old mother that I want to be here to care for.

All this means that I am grateful for people taking precautions against unknowingly spreading the virus. I am grateful for people protecting supermarket workers who are exposed to the public all day long. I want them to be well and I want my family to be able to buy food.

It seems to me that the engineering mindset comprehends the idea of low cost interventions for large payoffs.

The public wearing masks isn't just like helmet and seatbelt laws; it is also like you the car driver making sure your brakes and steering work before you get on the road.

If you or your mother are at high risk then YOU and YOUR MOTHER NEED to isolate yourselves from society or assume YOUR OWN RISK. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

End the lock down, FREEDOM!!!!

My mother is isolated. We bring her food.

I am essential worker. If I don’t do my job, people go to nursing homes which are dangerous places now.

My brother lives in Virginia. Middle aged cancer survivor, broke, out of work before the virus, no network of friends near, single father of a small child. He has to go out to buy food.

You want to protect the elderly. What if that 30 y.o. behind you in line works in a nursing home? Most people are networked. Another engineering concept. What you do to one part of the system affects other parts.

I am not even talking about general lockdowns here. I am talking about making shopping for food safer by lowering the chances of transmission in the stores and protecting the workers there by universal mask wearing in the store. Just that. An act of charity and public responsibility at very small cost to you. Might even keep you from getting sick and be a net benefit to you, but how would you ever know?

BS. Central Virginia has a million Food Lions that offer curb side pick up Your brother should use that method for food purchases.

Ok, that’s good for my brother. I hope the person who packed his food wasn’t infected. I hope she stays well so she can keep packing his food. Please do what you can to keep her well.

Meanwhile, in NJ, a bed bound client hasn’t been able to order a food delivery for five weeks. All the delivery spots signed up for before he can get one, nothing open for the next month. No curbside pickup here either. His caregivers have been getting food for him on their own shopping trips. Someone in each house has to buy food. No way around it. Can we keep the food stores safer with universal masking?

Stop projecting the dire situation in NJ onto the rest of REAL America. Just stop it.

Interesting that some of the highest number of new cases and new deaths are in these tight lockdown states.
