Activists push for taxpayer-funded international abortions amid COVID-19 pandemic

The abortion industry has been taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to push its own radical agenda. Just one aspect of this is the effort to permanently repeal the Mexico City Policy, which bans taxpayer dollars from funding abortions internationally.

The Population Connection Fund has launched the “Summer of HER,” with the goal of pressuring Congress to take on H.R. 1055, the Global Health, Empowerment and Rights Act. Introduced in February of 2019, the bill has been stalled ever since it was referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Now, more than a year later, abortion activists are exploiting COVID-19 to try to force the bill forward.

Part of their goal is launching a petition, with the hope of getting enough signatures to get the Senate to take action.

“People don’t stop needing sexual and reproductive health care during a pandemic. These services are as necessary as ever,” the petition reads, adding, “The impacts of Trump’s Global Gag Rule are deadly—even more so during the COVID-19 outbreak. We must repeal the Global Gag Rule immediately. Tell your senators to pass the Global HER Act today.”

The idea of using the COVID-19 pandemic as a tool to try to push abortions, as if the two are at all related, is ludicrous. After all, for people struggling with COVID-19 outbreaks in developing countries, abortion doesn’t help at all. What those people need is access to are legitimate medical care, clean water, soap, antibiotics, and personal protective equipment (PPE) — not abortion. Yet that’s all these pro-abortion organizations are concerned with; they aren’t worried about what these people actually need. To them, this is nothing more than an opportunity to push abortion on people who don’t want it or need it. Instead of supplying them with things like PPE, ventilators, or medications, abortion organizations are sending abortion kits. It’s grotesque and shows just how skewed the priorities of the abortion industry are. This has nothing to do with saving lives, and everything to do with abortion.

The Mexico City Policy has kept over $100 million from funding abortions overseas, largely from organizations like the International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International. And that means those dollars can be spent on legitimate health care, which is vital — especially during a pandemic. The reality, despite what abortion activists claim, is that abortion is not health care, and it is never medically necessary.

Pushing abortion on women overseas does not help them or empower them; it hurts them. It’s despicable to see abortion organizations working to use a worldwide health crisis twisted around to suit their own agenda.
