BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) Bexar County is investigating after nearly 50 residents were locked out of their apartments at a San Antonio complex. They say they found their doorknobs bolted when they returned home on Monday. Thats despite a local moratorium on evictions thats currently in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is sad. It is sad when somebody put a key on the door, even though they dont have money for two or three months. Right now, we dont need that, says Luis Falcon, who son was locked out of his apartment. This is the first flagrant violation we had of this, and weve asked the district attorney and other law enforcement to look into it and see what kind options we have against the company who did that, says Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.
The City of San Antonio has a program that helps residents cover their housing costs. In Travis County, evictions are prohibited until May 8 and those in violation could be fined $1,000 and/or face 180 days in jail. County Judge Sarah Eckhardt issued the order, which halts evictions, unless a tenant or a member of their household poses an imminent threat of physical harm to the property owner, the property owners employees, or other tenants, including other tenants within the household, or if there is criminal activity happening there.

We were covered under the contract. We had full landlord access. It was legal all the way. He notified us when he was ready to surrender-we drove up & he was still there. Place was a wreck. We had given him 3-day notice to vacate. 5 days before. All laws were followed. I just got a little vocal about the state of my home and said I’d join him...
No rent for two months and a guy dumb enough to drunk text his landlord....

Im a landlord in another country, having a lovely beach estate house. Having finished paying what they call equity, next month I was to pay the 10-year mortgage and fire insurance, real estate taxes and other costs and take ownership prior to starting the 10-year mortgage. Was going to have tourists from mainly Germany, Netherlands, the US and South Korea rent.
The lockdown and forced closure of resorts in the Philippines is killing me.
My plan was to get a flight out, stay there until either I find another job here or I start getting income from my properties there. But all flights in the Philippines, domestically and internationally, are cancelled until at least May 31. Until then, homelessness.,

I’m wondering if any landlords will file a lawsuit re lost rent...if state intercedes seems like they should be forced to compensate
Did Mnuchin consider landlord comp in the small business relief bill?
How about trying to put away 6% of an already inadequate paycheck with NO matching from the employer? Also not doing any great things in the meantime, like owning a car that wasn’t very recent vintage, living in a house that needed some expensive repairs, & having no medical insurance. This was all occurring BEFORE the coronavirus came along.

Yep...real stupid on their part (if this is the way it really happened). Luckily, we got almost everyone of our tenants to pay on April 1st for the month. Should be much more "interesting" this upcoming month (May)

Definitely agree with you oldtech, that there are many ways to set funds aside.
My mom told us to set aside new monies from raises. She said if we could live with what we were making before the pay raise surely we can set at least a portion of it away.
