Two charities have bailed scores of felony defendants out of Cook County Jail. Some were soon charged with new crimes.

At the time, Stewart’s ex-girlfriend had obtained an order of protection, saying that just days earlier he had shot a pistol into the ground at her 6-year-old son’s birthday party and threatened to kill her. “I should pop you right now bitch,” he shouted, according to her filing.

More than a fifth of these 162 defendants went on to be charged with new crimes while out on charity-sponsored bond, the Tribune’s investigation found.

The Chicago Community Bond Fund also paid $5,000 in February 2019 to bail out Izarious Cannon, who had allegedly stuck a gun in the face of a supermarket worker and threatened to shoot him if he did not hand over his money and iPhone

Stewart, writing from the Cook County Jail where he awaits trial in the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, describes The Bail Project’s help as “the best thing that ever happened to me.“ But, he added, "I messed it up.”

“The old road to hell...”

Sadly that old road is getting more use today than ever before.

I really think that the source of most of our societal problems today is an over-abundance of undeserved compassion and the resulting lack of gratitude.

Victims should sue the h$ll out of the Chicago Community Bond Fund. When parents let their kids drink at home, and give them the keys to the car, they are held liable for the ensuing harm caused. Same here. You bail out a criminal that re-offends, you should be held liable.

Yeah, but we will arrest some father for letting his kids play out in the yard, defying the stay in your house or else rules.
