Guess I’m one of your seniots here in SW Florida. I live with my 91 yo brother who walks slowly with a walker, my 82 yo wife of 45 years whom I worry about because she has a chronic lung infection (Mycobacteria spp.). I am in my 88th year, and I do feel threatened by the corona virus when I have to rub elbows with people like you. Out of politeness, I will refrain from saying anything further.
“Out of politeness, I will refrain from saying anything further.”
I try to be polite and friendly on these threads but anytime I am attacked personally, I refuse to let it go unanswered. I make no exceptions. I don’t give a pass to seniors, young folks, women, or anyone else.
Your post sounds a lot like a personal attack, your disclaimer notwithstanding.
Or to put it another way: “Please don’t get cute with me.”
I don’t believe these masks do much good other than to instill fear into people.
However ... I pretty much stick close to home even in normal times. I took early retirement and, aside from a little volunteer work I do, I’m a homebody who likes to read a lot.
As for the hand washing, I’ve always done that.
As to not getting into any of the touchy-feely stuff ... I’m glad to shake hands but please don’t hug me. I’m anything but a close talker. Generally, I maintain a healthy personal space.
I should emphasize that these are things I do routinely, whether or not it’s flu season.
Given your age and state of health, I can well understand why you and your family should be sheltering at home.
But there’s only so much you can demand from those who are outside the high-risk groups.
At this point, my concerns are mainly for the younger folks who need to be back at work ... like yesterday.
