More seriously, I don't think I'll be getting the full $1200, and the part I expect to get pretty well matches what I would otherwise owe in April 2021, so I'll send it back as an estimated payment. Part is just to be contrary and do the exact opposite of what the government wants us to do and part because it is relatively painless because it is "found" money rather than something I feel is mine.
And after two or three weeks of going to the IRS website and having them tell me “Status Not Available”, they finally allowed me to enter my bank account info yesterday so I won't have to wait for a paper check. The past few years I owed money so they didn't have my direct deposit info.
Thanks for your post- Because of your result @ IRS website, I decided to try again, and they now say that my deposit is on the way! I’m going to buy a Ford truck air conditioner compressor.
