President Donald Trump said Friday that his remarks on injecting disinfectants to treat COVID-19 were sarcasm, after doctors responded with horror and disinfectant manufacturers urged people not to ingest the poisonous substances.
"I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters just like you, just to see what would happen," Trump said on Friday during a bill signing for the coronavirus aid package. "I was asking a sarcastic and a very sarcastic question to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside. But it does kill it and it would kill it on the hands, and it would make things much better."
But the president's comments the day before — a lengthy musing that disinfectant or powerful light could be used to fight the virus — did not appear to be sarcasm; they were in part directed at a Homeland Security official.

My take on it, watching live yesterday, was that the comments were more tongue-in-cheek than foot-in-mouth.

He would have been better dismissing the media’s hysteria over his comments and saying he was simply wondering aloud about ideas for treating the virus. He could have pointed out that we use things like X-ray machines, radiation to treat cancer, and inhalers to deliver medication in aerosol form to show that he musing along the lines of established technologies.
Looked to me like was very excited there could be more possibilities for treating CCP-19.
I think he knows May 1 is coming and people are done.

Anderson Cooper is a maroon and those jackasses need to be on the other side of Trump to keep what few viewers they have left watching, enabling to sell ads. Which they have to sell cheaper than Fox because, well, no one watches them, making their product not as valuable.

Not if you leave the TV off or watch something more interesting. I’m on a boycott of news - except local for the weather - and it does marvels for the temperament!! I highly recommend it. There is enough going on that can aggravate a person without intentionally inviting it in!
