Pop star Taylor Swift said the Soros Family is driven by “shameless greed in the time of coronavirus” over their role in the digital release of an unapproved album composed of a live radio show performance she did in 2008.

The left-wing singer shredded Soros and power manager Scooter Braun in a lengthy Instagram message.

“Hey Guys – I want to thank my fans for making me aware that my former record label is putting out an “album” of live performances of mine tonight. This recording is from a 2008 radio show performance I did when I was 18. Big Machine has listed the date as a 2017 release but they’re actually releasing it tonight at midnight,” Taylor Swift said.

....

Pitchfork reported that the album, Live From Clear Channel Stripped 2008, will be release on “digital storefronts and streaming services.” As Billboard notes, the album is called Live From Clear Channel 2008. It was recorded during a radio show performance and it has already been released in select timezones.

In December 2019, Swift slammed Braun after he bought the rights to her music with funding from the family of left-wing billionaire George Soros.

Amen! Someone finally found him committing a sin that she just couldn’t condone. Good for her!

“How do you know she’s not evil? Her views certainly point in that direction”

Her handlers were smart enough to make it look like she doesn’t care for a common enemy. Today.

Reminds me of Alejandro Villanueva’s sudden 24-hour patriotism after freepers had been burning NFL paraphernalia.

Some of “us” are still eager to believe.

Sales to right wing fans will rise again a bit.

[Huge Swiftie and I know FReepers don’t like her politics but we have the same enemy here - the Soros family.]

I’m trying to figure out what is so admirable about this attempt to claw back the rights to what she walked away from. Her desire to add to her stack of chips is somehow more worthy than Soros’s desire to add to his stack of chips? As far as I can tell, Soros paid for those rights fair and square. I don’t agree with him politically, but I believe he should benefit from the rights he paid for. Quite frankly, this is probably the first time I’ve ever felt the urge to side with Soros. All it took was for this harridan to mouth off.

In two years nobody will remember Taylor Swift anyway, she was just the flavor of the month for a few years, people move on.

From now on Taylor Swift had better watch her back.

Soros is a vindictive old bastard and will get even.

She isn’t about “the stack of chips.” It’s about losing her rights. This is a very common situation for artists in this industry. They create the work that pays off everyone. They are TRICKED into giving away too much of their power. Some smart successful ones have made intelligent efforts to wrest back the right amount of control, like Tay and Prince.

The person you call a “harridan” has made many stands that hurt her slightly (and give her personally no “chips”) but have helped the poor struggling new musicians instead, using her power for good (like the Spotify stand).

Some FReepers are so blind to anything that doesn’t have the R label stamped upon it.

Well, reading this thread, if I sound hysterical to you, a) I don’t care and b) it sure is better than sounding mean and unChristian like so many here. I can like what I like, no?

No tricks involved. Companies sign up a bunch of talent, some of which sells and most of which doesn’t. The few successful acts pay for the majority that are duds. I see it in the profit statements of showbiz companies, which are, frankly, not great and very volatile for the fairly low profit margins involved.

The stories that go around about these ventures as very marginal are true more often than not. The investors opt in not because they expect big returns. What they want is a brush with celebrity, if only as financiers.

The R label has nothing to do with anything. Both Soros and Swift are far left wingers. On the basis of politics, I’d want Soros to lose because he’s a very effective campaign donor who has elevated many key liberals to office. Whereas Swift is your typical self-absorbed showbiz figure who’s a nothing in the political world.

The issue is property rights. The rights were purchased fair and square *before* it was clear she would become an multi-decade star rather than a flash in the pan. Does Bill Gates get to buy back, at the issue price, the shares he issued on the cheap back when it wasn’t clear that Microsoft would become a trillion dollar market cap company?

No doubt... Just as some choose not to like. I hear you about the low level of communication these days. Fuses are short and everyone seems extra edgy. It’s great when we can simply agree to disagree rather than insulting others. However, it seemed like you were casting your own stones and condemning others as well which is why I replied as such.

Wishing you and all FReepers the best.

Taylor Swift and Prince both just wanted a reasonable amount of control over their intellectual property rights. You cannot believe that the music industry over the years doesn’t do, like all lawyers do, the max to benefit itself no matter what, if they can use wording and loopholes. I have no pity for the industry types and their margins. Producers and publicists and labels and ads deserve their profits for what they do. But the top of the pyramid should be the creator.

As an investor, I have no sympathy for showbiz people who want to gyp the people who gambled on their prospects when they were nobodies. Especially showbiz people worth hundreds of millions of dollars. You want to keep all your rights? Bankroll your own expenses from the get-go, instead of begging for investor money.
