Commandant of the Marine Corps outlaws Confederate Flag

The commandant of the Marine Corps has banned the public display of the Confederate battle flag, a symbol that he said had the “power to inflame” division.

Yeah. They better change the patch of the 29th “Blue and Gray” Division while there at it, and remove any signs of that patch from the headstones of those guys killed on the Easy Green, Dog Red, Dog White, and Dog Green sectors of Omaha beach too....

I had a Confederate license plate flag on the front of my car in 1974 when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune. Nobody thought it was an issue back then. I only took it off in 1975 when I drove home on leave and registered my car in Alaska, which is a two license plate state.

I wonder what would happen if we had to field a military like this country did in 1941. I seriously doubt we could find enough non-whimperers to actually do it.

We have become, what is the term, “WOKE” that we would end up with more non-combatants then soldiers.

Totally disgusted with what is called an American these days.

As a legal and constitutional matter, NO ONE in the confederacy was convicted of treason after the war, despite several attempts to do so.

Every Confederate state seceded by an action of their state legislatures. As a constitutional (not military force of arms matter) the issue of state secession, for whatever the reason, remains an open constitutional question. There seems to have been an implicit agreement to quietly shelve that can of worms.

Article I section 10 forbids any State from entering into a “Confederation.” Were it to come to that, the states or individual defendants would surely argue in court that they were not bound by the Constitution once they had “lawfully” seceded from it.

There was a fairly significant recent movement in California, the land of fruits and nuts, to secede over environmental issues.

Texas vs White (1869) definitely said that unilateral secession was unconstitutional. This ruling was cited as recently as 2010 by the Alaska Supreme Court in Kohlhass v state of Alaska.

In fact most high ranking confederate’s were pardon for their actions, which were clearly treasonous.

This Marine vet applauds the Commandants decision. No reason to have a flag of a failed rebellion against America displayed on any American military base. Hopefully the Army will follow suit and change the name of their posts that are named after confederate generals.

There was some hot-tempered talk up north about treason at the time Lincoln invaded the South, but I've never heard a reasonable person make the argument in modern times.

Something about: “. . . That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

If you reject the principles of the founding fathers, this won't mean anything to you.
