After the Second World War, Sweden initiated a clandestine nuclear program and had plans for a supersonic nuclear bomber.
After World War II, the Soviet specter lay heavily across Europe. Like other post-war countries, Sweden wanted to protect itself from a Soviet invasion and decided to manufacture nuclear weapons to ensure its security. Initially, Sweden tried to get nuclear weapons expertise from outside the country. The United States, as the worlds first nuclear power and a guarantor of European security, was a logical partner.

Around 1964 my dad was going to buy a Saab. It had 3 cylinders and was a two stroke so he had to mix oil with the gasoline. That turned him off on the whole deal so he bought a used 1962 Plymouth bel-air just like in Independence Day. No Bombs though.

The Swedes are going to need these airplanes if they keep importing people who want to kill them—if only for a getaway to someplace safe.

Sort of looks like the B-58 Hustler by Convair. One of my favorite planes. The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was/is one of the sexiest jets ever. The North American P-51 Mustang is a classic.
Nice looking aircraft. The orange details set it off.
The Grumman Bearcat was a beautiful airplane.
I don’t see how they kept from swapping ends or tumbling. There was no pointy end to keep forward.
You can’t really say they were a pretty airplane. Just a chunk of concentrated power. This shot shows your point better than any I have seen. The seating position and view vantage is for one thing only.
My Dad flew these post war.
Engineering like this is what you get in a small homogeneous society like Sweden, Norway and Finland. These countries are more like city states than nations in population.
