Yep. Some stepped up and honored their commitment to our country when drafted. And then still, as you say, some volunteered to serve.
Women were allowed to serve in my era (non combat), but I didn’t. Much gratitude to all who did. We have many American veterans of which to be proud. May God bless them and America never forget our debt to those who served and those who are serving now.

Good thing I was sitting in the back, she never saw me sneak out. See, I always sign my name in lower case printing...as a favor to my readers. I figured out right there that I, with my independent, "marching to the beat of a different drummer" attitude would not be a good match with the Air Force. Darn, and I would have been great as a translator in a foreign embassy! Of course, that was back in the day when they could lie to you about where and what you would serve...so who knows?
