How long can the current Iranian government maintain its grip on power? The Iranian people haven’t been the happiest of campers for a long time. The Coronavirus has diverted attention from the unrest and it almost impossible to get any reliable news about anything else.

“ I’ve suffered thru $4 per gallon gas so I’m willing to pay whatever it is now that will keep our drillers employed.......”

Yeh, I’m with ya. I’m not in the oil biz but my daughter and her husband are. They live in Midland, Tx which is in the Permian Basin. They tell me the shale/fracking sector needs $40/barrel oil to be profitable. That price would fall through to the pump at $2.50/gal. I’m ok with that if it keeps us oil independent and a net exporter.

What it means is great losses to our oil producers and mass unemployment.

More than that, it means industry everywhere is grinding to a halt. This is not good news about bargain gas. This is the canary in the coal mine who's just dying to tell you that food and goods are about to become scarce.

Remember how we used to laugh about empty shelves in Venezuela? Thanks Fearpers, you own this.

Sign of a world-wide depression.

We are most definitely headed into Great Depression II. But we will not see it start to get bad for a couple of months. Our virus economy is like the guy that jumps off a 20 story building and we are sitting here behind an open window on the fifth floor and he’s falling by saying, “so far, so good.”.

The ground will come. and it will come hard. Few are prepared for what is coming.

Trump said some shipping companies are doing well because they load up their tankers with oil and just let them sit at sea

Gee, imagine what this is doing to Russia, Saudi, IRAN

What a shame

It means cheap petroleum products for the near future and lots of layoffs in the oil industry.

I have seen this cycle many times.

Me too. However, this time might be different. We might need that petro, and more, soon.

It means China (the largest importer of oil) is getting cheap oil, while the USA, the largest producer of oil, is getting screwed.

'Zactly. Our oil producers will go out of business and we'll be back under OPEC's heel again.

That’s by far the best I’ve seen.

Topped off the tank at $1.459 a couple weeks back at Sam’s Club. Haven’t used more than a gallon since.

I’m thinking...road trip.

As you know it is not just Texas now. North Dakota and Alberta are huge oil producing areas too. It has a tremendous trickle down effect throughout all the industries that service the energy exploration sector.

I am a lumber broker. All the British Columbia sawmills produce 2x8 #2&btr Rough sawn Green Douglas Fir/Larch that goes to ACESS MATTING producers. This is one of their main target products being cut from larger diameter timber. If there is no drilling then there is not need for this product.
Other sawmills in the USA makes these 2x8 in Red Oak. They are used to get to drilling sights in swampy areas. Hence, they are also called swamp mats.
In addition there companies that cut 6” timbers for drilling mats. Same idea, but not as much volume.

Another factor in my business is the construction of Man Camp portable buildings. These were used extensively in Alberta, North Dakota and Texas in the last ten years. Some manufactured housing companies did this almost exclusively during and right after the Great Recession. Stop drilling and you stop the need for temporary housing for oil workers.

I am sure you can name dozens of other items/industries that the layman person has no idea about the effect that Cheap oil has.

The ripple effect is terrible.

There was a joke going around in 1983 when oil was $7/barrel.

What is the difference between a pigeon and a Texas oil man?

A pigeon can make a deposit on a new car.

Replenished the national stockpile too early. Could have gotten it for half price by waiting a month. Lord knows there is no need for fuel with everybody order not to travel.
